Danville Wings Defenseman Commits to Miami of Ohio

By Ron Valerino
Danville Wings first year defenseman Chris Busby will suit up in a Redhawk jersey this fall. The 6’0″ 180 lb (4/11/82 dob) defenseman verbally committed to Miami of Ohio for 2002-2003 season. Busby came to the Wings from Brown University to join Wings head coach Chico Adrahtas who was his former coach when Busby played for midget powerhouse Team Illinois. Head coach Adrahtas comments, “Chris’s decision to go to Miami is like a perfect marriage. He’ll fit very well in there as an athlete and he fits a great need for Miami. I think Miami is the type of school that Chris will thrive in and I know that it is the type of hockey program that he will thrive in. I think that Miami got a future all-CCHA defenseman when they got Chris to commit to them.”

Busby will be joining former Wings players, Todd Grant (freshman) and Derek Edwardson (soph). Miami players Pavel Nejezchleb, Ken Marsh and Jake Ortmeyer are also Wings alumni who are seniors and will be graduating this spring. Busby’s current stats are 2 (G) 21(A) 23 (Pts) 71 (PIM) for 32 games. Busby is the third Wings player to commit college this season joining Marek Dora (Michigan Tech) and Matt Collar (University of Massachusetts-Lowell).
