FORGE SPLITS WEEKEND WITH DANVILLE

Wings 4 Forge 1 :
NEVILLE ISLAND (Friday, February 1, 2002) — The Pittsburgh Forge Junior A
hockey club lost a 4-1 decision to the Danville Wings. After Danville scored
the only goal of the opening period, Pittsburgh tied the game 1-1 at the
14:16 mark of the second period on a goal by Mike Handza. It was Handza’s
18th goal of the season — which tied him with Pat Levendusky for the team
lead.

The Wings got a goal by Marek Hornak moments later at 17:38 and led
2-1 after two periods. Danville increased its advantage to 3-1 just 38
seconds into the final period when Jeremy Hall beat Pittsburgh goaltender
Tim Heneroty. The Wings closed out the scoring for the night on a
power-play goal by Bryan Marshall with a minute and 23 seconds left in the
contest.

Forge 3 Wings 1 :
NEVILLE ISLAND (Saturday, February 2, 2002) — The Pittsburgh Forge Junior A
hockey club defeated the Danville Wings, 3-1, at the Island Sports Center on
Neville Island. An empty-net goal by Pat Levendusky with 33.1 seconds
remaining in the game officially decided the issue after a hard-fought
defensive battle between the two clubs in the final period. The victory
improved the Forge’s record to 27-12-2, which is the second-best mark in the
North American Hockey League.

Pittsburgh remains in second place in the
NAHL’s Eastern Division with 56 points. Pittsburgh led 1-0 after the first
period of play on Andy Brandt’s 17th goal of the season. Brandt beat
Danville goalie Marc Bowen on a rebound at the 11:49 mark with Bernie Chmiel
and Andy Cote assisting on the play. The Wings scored in similar fashion
early in the second period as Patrick Lerg stuck a rebound past Forge goalie
Tim Heneroty at 2:03. Pittsburgh regained the lead before the period ended
when Kenny Trombetta scored his ninth goal of the season at 18:06 with
Chmiel and Doug Conley assisting. Levendusky’s goal was his 19th of the
season. He leads the club in that department. Heneroty, who has appeared in
38 of Pittsburgh’s 41 games this season, notched his 25th win.

Whats coming up: The Forge will next see action on Friday and Saturday,
February 15-16, when the NAHL’s top team — the Compuware Ambassadors —
visits the Island Sports Center for a pair of 7:30 p.m. contests. Tickets
for the Compuware games — and all remaining Forge home games are available
by calling (412) 269-4478 or visiting the Island Sports Center
