FORGE SPLITS WEEKEND WITH COMPUWARE

Ambassadors 5 Forge 4 : Shootout
NEVILLE ISLAND (Friday, February 15, 2002) — The Pittsburgh Forge Junior A hockey club lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Compuware Ambassadors at the Island Sports Center on Neville Island. The Forge blew leads of 3-0 and 4-1. The Forge scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the contest, and held a 4-2 advantage after the first period of play. Pittsburgh led 3-0 after Josh Coyle and Gabe Rehak scored goals nine seconds apart. Andy Cote had the other two goals for the Forge — one at the 4:42 mark and another at 15:17. Compuware picked up a goal by Andy
Greene with just nine seconds left in the period to cut the margin to two. After neither team scored in the second period, Compuware tied the game on third-period goals by Mike Falk — his second of the game — and Daniel Knapp. Both teams were held scoreless during the five-minute overtime period, which sent the game to a shootout. Falk was the only member of the Ambassadors to beat Pittsburgh goaltender Tim Heneroty during the shootout, but the goal gave his team the victory as all five Forge shooters failed to solve Compuware goaltender Chris Davidson.

Forge 3 Ambassadors 2:
NEVILLE ISLAND (Saturday, February 16, 2002) — The Pittsburgh Forge Junior A hockey club defeated the top team in the North American Hockey League — the Compuware Ambassadors — by a score of 3-2 at the Island Sports Center. All of the Pittsburgh goals came in the third period as the second-place Forge improved its record to 28-12-3. Despite the loss, first-place Compuware still leads the NAHL with a record of 32-7-4. Pittsburgh is now 3-3-2 against the Ambassadors this season. Seven of those eight contests have been decided by one goal, and four have gone to a shootout. Compuware led 1-0 after two periods on a goal by Chris Conner, before the Pittsburgh offense came alive in the final 20 minutes. Sean Berkstresser tied the game 1-1 at the 3:29 mark. After Daniel Knapp put the Ambassadors back on top, Brandon Warner’s goal at 5:26 produced a 2-2 deadlock. Andy Brandt got the game-winner for Pittsburgh at the 10:16 mark — it was his team-high, sixth game-winning goal of the season.

Whats coming up: The Forge will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, February 22-23 in Dallas when they play a pair of games against the Western Division-leading Texas Tornado. Tickets for all remaining Forge home games are available by calling (412) 269-4478 or visiting the Island Sports Center.
