A little chat with Tuomas Pihlman

By pbadmin

Tuomas Pihlman, a player of JyP Jyväskylä, was a member of the Finnish U-20 team which captured the bronze medal at the WJC in Czech Republic recently.

Question: You’ve been drafted by the New Jersey Devils. Do you have decided yet when to go there?

Pihlman: No, not I don’t know that yet.

Question: As you would not get a chance to play in the NHL, would you prefer playing in the Minor Leagues or playing in Finland?

Pihlman: In Finland, because hockey there is more technical than in North America.

Question: Could you imagine playing in other European countries?

Pihlman: Hmmmm…. no, hardly.

Question: You were born in Espoo, but play for JyP Jyväskylä. Why don’t you play for local Espoo Blues?

Pihlman: My parents moved to Jyväskylä when I was 12, so I joined the local hockey club there and have been playing for it now for seven years.

Question: What’s your favourite team in Finland and your favourite NHL team?

Pihlman (smiling): In Finland Jyväskylä and in the NHL New Jersey Devils

Question: What is your favourite player?

Pihlman: Mario Lemieux

Question: At the world junior championship in Czech Republic, you wore jersey #29. Is there any specific reason for that?

Pihlman: When I was younger, I had number 49, and I also wear it in the SM-Liiga, but on the WJC team I could not get that, so I chose number 29.

Question: Are you superstitious in any way?

Pihlman: Yeah, I always put my left foot on the ice first.

Question: Finally, could you tell us how to pronounce your surname correctly?

Pihlman: The “H” is not pronounced here, so it sounds like in English “Peelmun”.
