ALL FIRST ROUND SERIES DONE IN CHL PLAYOFFS

The first round of the playoffs are now complete in all three leagues of
Canadian Hockey League as the road to the 2002 MasterCard Memorial Cup
continues.

The Western Hockey League’s second round match-ups are now all set and the
Ontario Hockey League’s second round has begun. The Quebec Major Junior
Hockey League’s second round begins Friday night.

In each edition of the CHL Daily News (Monday through Friday) right up until
the conclusion of the CHL playoffs, the playoff results of all three CHL
leagues will be included. Second round playoff action in all three leagues
will be completed by April 17.

Wrap-ups from all of the games are included daily, along with that day’s
schedule of games. Heading into Thursday night’s play there are now 24 teams
alive in the hunt for the 2002 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

Starting April 8, a special MasterCard Memorial Cup section will also be
available at the official website of the CHL, www.chl.ca. The MasterCard
Memorial Cup takes place May 18-26, 2002 in Guelph, Ontario.

CHL, www.chl.ca, daily right up until the 2002 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE

There are no games scheduled in the WHL Thursday night.

The Brandon Wheat Kings (7) became the final WHL team to advance to the
second round as they defeated the Saskatoon Blades 2-1 in game seven of
their opening round series last night in Brandon before 5,318 fans.

At Brandon, Adrian Foster had one goal and one assist, including the
game-winning goal at 13:28 of the third period, to give the Wheat Kings the
victory and the best-of-seven series 4-3.

Colin McRae scored the other Brandon goal, while Justin Kelly had the lone
goal for the Blades. Michael Garnett stopped 28 shots for the losers, while
Robert McVicar made 17 saves for Brandon, who out-shot the visitors 30-18.

ONTARIO HOCKEY LEAGUE

There is one second round playoff game in the OHL Thursday night as the
London Knights travel to Erie to take on the Otters in the opening game of
their best-of-seven series.

On Wednesday night in the OHL, the Ottawa 67’s opened the second round of
the CHL playoffs by defeating the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors (6) 3-2 to
take a 1-0 series lead.

At Toronto, Corey Locke scored the game-winning goal, a shorthanded marker,
at 12:42 of the third period to give Ottawa the win on the road. Geoff
Patton had one goal and one assist for Toronto, as J.F. Perras made 21 saves
in goal for the winners. Ottawa out-shot St. Michael’s 33-23.
