Riders Ousted From Playoffs

By Kory Catlett

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders were eliminated from the Clark Cup Playoffs last night by the Omaha Lancers after a 2-0 loss. Omaha scored on a power play goal in the third period and CR couldn’t find the back of the net.

With CR standout goalie Bobby Goepfert pulled, Omaha scored an empty net insurance goal to salt things away. Cedar Rapids had plenty of great scoring chances early in the game. Like a pretty wrap around shot that everyone in the arena, including Omaha goalie Dominic Vicari, thought was in, but referee Chris Ciamanga didn’t think so. The Riders were lucky it was that close considering Omaha had two point blank shots bounce off the pipes in the first period.

Now Cedar Rapids must take on the monumental task of trying to fill Bobby Goepfert’s goalie pads. It will be a long time before we see anyone who can dominate a game or a league the way he did over the last two seasons.
