The Dogs faced the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Bridgeport over the weekend for their first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Hamilton Bulldogs opened the AHL Eastern Conference Finals on Friday losing a close 3-2 decision to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The Sound
Tigers lead the best-of-seven series 1-0.
Scoring goals for Hamilton were Jason Chimera and Jani Rita. The Sound Tigers goals came from Jason Krog, Raffi Torres and Trent Hunter, who had the game winner.
Ty Conklin made 25 saves in the loss for Hamilton. Bridgeport goaltender Rick DiPietro won his eighth game of the playoffs making 20 saves.
The loss for Hamilton was just their second of the playoffs. The Bulldogs now have a record of 7 wins and 2 losses in the playoffs. Hamilton also scored on the power play for the ninth consecutive game.
The Hamilton Bulldogs lost a tight game on Saturday night, losing 3-1 to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The Sound Tigers now lead the best of seven AHL Eastern Conference Final 2-0.
There was no scoring in the game until the 9:54 mark of the second period when Bridgeport forward Justin Mapletoft backhanded in a goal. Assists went to Eric Godard and Raffi Torres on the play. The Bulldogs would even the score in the third period (11:33) as Kevin Brown took a slapshot from the point that beat Sound Tigers goaltender Rick DiPietro. However, Bridgeport would take the lead for good at 14:33 of the third period as Trent Hunter scored on a one-timer from Raffi Torres and Mapletoft. Hunter would add an
empty netter to clinch the game for Bridgeport.
The Bulldogs were 1 for 7 on the power play, while the Sound Tigers were 0 for 4 with the man advantage. Bulldogs goaltender Ty Conklin made 21 saves in the loss. Rick DiPietro stopped 15 of 16 shots to earn the win for the Sound Tigers.
During the second period in game 2, Peter Sarno was checked from behind into the boards and was injured on the play. He was taken to hospital with complaints of soreness in his neck. Sarno was able to return home with the team but his condition is unknown.
