On Tuesday, the Sudbury Wolves sent recent Blues draft pick, Andrei Mikhnov to the Kingston Frontenacs in exchange for two picks in the CHL import draft.
Mikhnov, who was selected in the 2nd round by the Blues in last weekend’s draft, scored 14 goals and 18 assists in 65 games last season for Sudbury.
Blues Make Qualifying Offers to Prospects, Pick up Option on Bogenicki
The St. Louis Blues announced Thursday that they had tendered qualifying offers to a number of prospects. The prospects were: Daniel Tkaczuk, Mark Rycroft, Jame Pollack, Cody Rudkowsky, Mark Rycroft, Marc Brown, Michel Riesen, Andre Troschinsky and Dale Clarke. The Blues also picked up the option on last season’s AHL MVP, Eric Boguniecki.
The offers give the Blues the negotiating rights with the forwards. However, these players are free to sign with any team. If they do, the Blues would have the right to match the offer or would receive compensation for the loss.
Even though the Blues offered Riesen and Troschinsky a contract, neither is expected to play in Worcester next season. Riesen returned to Europe after failing to make the Blues last fall. The Blues offered the contract to retain his rights.
After a poor season in Worcester, Troschinsky decided to return to Russia where Blues management expects him to stay for only a season or two.
Byrne Going Pro?
Rumors on the Dartmouth campus suggest that Blues’ prospect Trevor Byrne has decided to forgo his final year of college eligibility. However, his final decision will be based on contract negotiations with the St. Louis Blues.
The 21 year old defenseman scored 21 points in 32 games and recorded a plus-minus of +13 in his junior season at Dartmouth. His large frame (6’3, 220) will be a nice addition to the Worcester IceCats, who are expected to lose Barret Jackman to St. Louis next season.
Shkotov Drafted by Moncton
With the 5th overall pick of the CHL Import Draft, Moncton of the OHL selected recent Blues draft pick Alexei Shkotov. In 52 games while playing at the junior level in Russia last year, the right winger scored 17 goals and 9 assists.
