Traverse City Prospect Camp, Day 3
Well, Prospect Camp on Sunday happened while I was in church but I did
go down to the rink afterwards to pick up some box scores. When I got
there the doors were locked but I didn’t even realize it till Ray, one
of the rink attendants, turned around to unlock the doors for me. So
thanks to Ray I can attempt to let you know what little I know of what
happened on the third day of camp.
The Detroit Red Wings beat the St. Louis Blues with a final score of
five to two.
All of the first period scoring went to Detroit. James Cuddihy scored
the first and last goal of the period. Matt Ellis assisted on his first
goal and Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Kopecky assisted on his second goal.
Thatcher Bell scored the second goal for Detroit on a five-on-three
power play advantage with assists from Kopecky and Danny Groulx. D.J.
King and Doug MacIver were both in the penalty box for holding and high
The third goal was scored by Tomas Fleischmann when he put the puck
behing Marc-Andre LeClerc and had assists from Chad LaRose and Cuddihy.
Joel Ward scored Detroit’s last goal with thirty seconds left in the
second period. Ellis and Aaron Van Leusen assisted on the goal.
St. Louis finally got on the board with eight seconds left in the second
period. Robert Snowball finally found a way to get the puck past Nick
Pannoni. Grant Jacobsen and Adam STurgeon had the assists.
Ellis was in the penalty box when Andrei Mikhnov scored the only third
period goal on the power play. Tyler Beechey and Christian Backman
assisted on the goal.
Brett Scheffelmaier received a game misconduct after his second fight.
His first was with Darryl Bootland in the second period. His second was
against Joel Ward in the third.
The Washington Capitals beat the Atlanta Flames six-to-five in overtime.
The first goal of the game went to Washington when Brian Sutherby scored
on the power play. Atlanta’s Paul Flache was serving a penalty for
slashing. Graham Mink and Owen Fussey assisted on the goal.
Ben Ondrus tied the game up before the first period ended with an assist
from Josh Gratton.
Washington was up by one at the end of the second period after scoring
three goals. Chris Corrinet, Warren Peters, a shorthanded goal, and
Jason Maleyko scored for Washington in the second. Atlanta’s goals came
from Charles Linglet and Flache had a power play goal.
Washington’s Corrinet then scored the first goal in the third period
giving them a two goal lead but Atlanta came back scoring two goals
thirty-four seconds apart. Karl Strewart’s came on the power play and
John Hecimovic scored the other at even strength to tie the game back up.
The game went to overtime and with forty-one seconds left in overtime
Jakub Cutta scored for Washington.
I’ll hopefully be at the rink for the fourth day of Prospect Camp,
before the doors get locked this time!
