A native of Quebec City, Ferland recorded 12 points on eight goals and four assists in three games last week as the Titan posted a won-lost-tied record of 2-0-1. Ferland recorded two game winning goals and was a plus nine during play last week. In five games this season Ferland, a first round pick in the 1999 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Midget Draft, leads the QMJHL with nine goals.
The highlight of Ferland’s week was a six-goal performance in Acadie-Bathurst’s 9-0 win over the Rimouski Oceanic on September 27 and in doing so the 19-year-old right winger became the eighteenth player in CHL history to score six goals or more goals in one game. The CHL record for most goals in a game is nine, a record that is shared by three players. Normand Aubin of the Sorel Eperviers (September 23, 1979), Stephan Lebeau of the Shawinigan Cataractes (December 22, 1986) and Mathieu Benoit of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (November 14, 1999) all scored eight goals in one game.
Daniel Sisca of the Mississauga IceDogs was the Ontario Hockey League’s Player of the Week. In three games last week Sisca scored six goals and added four assists in the IceDog’s three games. The Western Hockey League Player of the Week was Jonas Johansson of the Kamloops Blazers who recorded 12 points on two goals and 10 assists in three games last week.
