Canadiens’ prospects update

Duncan Milroy -RW (Drafted-01(2/37))

Milroy, an assistant captain with the Kootenay Ice, scored 2 goals through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 19-year-old has played 7 games. He has 8 points (6-2-8), and is plus-1 with 6 minutes in penalties. The 6’0″, 198-lbs right winger has 2 powerplay goals and 1 shorthanded marker.

Olivier Michaud -G (Free Agent-2001(3-y contract))

Shawinigan’s Olivier Michaud has struggled desperately through the season’s first 6 games. The 5’10’, 163-lbs goalie is not living up to last year’s billing, although in his defense he’s playing on a poor defensive team. Through 6 games the 19-year-old has a 1-5 record, a 4.69 GAA, and an .867 save percentage. He’s averaged 34 shots against through his first 6 starts.

Michael Lambert -F (Drafted-02(4/99))

Lambert has played consistently well to date. He scored 2 goals through 2 games since our last update. Both his goals came during a 4-2 win over Chicoutimi. Overall, the 6’2″, 182-lbs forward has played 9 games. He has 9 points (7-2-9), and is minus-1 with 4 minutes in penalties. His 7 goals lead the Rocket; three of which were scored on the powerplay.

Jonathan Ferland -RW (Drafted-02(7/182))

Acadie Bathurst’s Jonathan Ferland managed 2 assists through 2 games since our previous update. The 6’2″, 206-lbs forward’s 9 goals lead the league (tie), while both his plus/minus and point total are good enough for third spot league-wide. In addition, his 2.43 point-per-game average is tops in the “Q”. Overall, the 19-year-old has played 7 games. He has 17 points (9-8-17), and is plus-11 with a 10 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while another was scored short-handed.

André Deveaux -C (Drafted-02(6/182))

Belleville’s André Deveaux scored 1 goal and added 1 assist through 3 games since our last update. His goal came during a 4-2 win over Oshawa, while he managed an assist during a 5-2 win over Mississauga. Overall, the 6’4″, 210-lbs center has played 6 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), with 13 minute in penalties and an even plus/minus.

Andrew Archer -D (Drafted-01(7/203))

Guelph’s Andrew Archer was shutout through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’4″, 212-lbs stay at home defenseman has played 7 games. He has 2 points (0-2-2), and is minus-4 with 15 minutes in penalties.

Eric Himelfarb -C (Drafted-01(6/171))

Himelfarb has been steady but unspectacular to date. He picked up 4 points through 3 games since our last update, and is currently on a 6-game point-scoring streak that dates back to the beginning of the season. Overall, he 5’10”, 186-lbs forward has 7 points (3-4-7), and is minus-2 with 6 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

Tomas Linhart -D (Drafted-02(2/45))

Mississauga’s Tomas Linhart was shutout through 2 games this week. Although he has yet to produce offensively, his plus-4 rating ties him for the team lead. The 6’2″, 214-lbs defenseman has played 7 games. He has 1 assist and is a previously mentioned plus-4, with 6 minutes in penalties.

Matt Shasby -D (Drafted-99(5/150))

Alaska-Anchorage University’s Matt Shasby managed 2 assists through 1 exhibition game so far this season. The 22-year-old finished last season as the Habs’ top scoring defensive prospect (points per game), and will captain the Seawolves this year.

Scott Selig -C/RW (Drafted-00(6/172))

Northeastern University’s Scott Selig is in dire need of a breakout season. The 21-year-old picked up an assist during a season opening 3-3 tie with Vermont. The 6’2″, 195-lbs. forward will need to produce consistently if he hopes to be part of the Habs’ plans.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

Buturlin is still looking for his first point through 8 games with Lada Togliatti. He does however, have 4 minutes in penalties.

Alexander Perezhogin -C (Drafted-01(1/25))

Perezhogin scored 1 goal through 2 games since our last update. His goal came during a 6-1 win over Siberia. The 6’0″, 190-lbs forward has played in each of Omsk’s 9 games this season. He has 6 points (4-2-6) with zero minutes in penalties.

Konstantin Korneev -D (Drafted-02(9/275))

At only 18 years old Korneev remains the Canadiens youngest prospect. He picked up his first assist of the season this week. Overall, the 5’11”, 178-lbs defenseman has played 9 games and has 8 minutes in penalties to go along with his assist.

Joni Puurula -G (Drafted-00(8/243))

HPK’s Joni Puurula played in one of his team’s 2 games this week; Winning a 4-3 decision in overtime. Overall, the 20-year-old goalie has played 5 games this season. He has a 3-2 record to go along with a 2.60 GAA, and a .909 save percentage.

Johan Eneqvist -F (Drafted-00(4/109))

Leksands IF’s Johan Eneqvist picked up 2 assists through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’0″, 183-lbs forward has played 6 games. He has 2 points (0-2-2), and is plus-3 with 8 minutes in penalties.

Victor Ujcik -F (Drafted-01(9/266))

Slavia Praha’s Viktor Ujcik managed 2 goals through 2 games since our last update. Both his goals came during a 5-0 win. Overall, the 5’11”, 190-lbs winger has played 8 games. He has 4 points (4-0-4), and is plus-3 with 6 minutes in penalties.

Vadim Tarasov -G (Drafted-99(7/196))

Metallurgist HK’s Vadim Tarasov played only 23 minute of 1 game this week. Overall, the 5’11”, 187-lbs goalie has played in parts of 6 games this season. The 25-year-old has a 2-3 record to go along with a 3.15 GAA and an unofficial .892 save percentage.

Timo Vertala -W (Drafted-96(5/181))

Vertala was shutout through Jokerit’s last 3 games. Overall, the feisty winger has played 9 games. He has 3 points (1-2-3), and is plus-2 with 8 minutes in penalties.

Hab you Heard?

-Kim Staal, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’96 has yet to play a Swedish Elite League game this season.

-Niklas Anger, the Habs’ 5th round pick in ’95 plays with Brynas IF of the Swedish Elite League. He’s played 6 games and has 3 points (1-2-3). He’s minus-3 with zero minutes in penalties.

-Ilkka Mikkola, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’97 has yet to play a regular season game. He remains on Jokerit’s roster in the Finnish Elite League.

-Miloslav Guren, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’95 has transferred from Trinec of the Czech Extraliga to CSKA Moskva of the Russian Superleague. Through 9 games the 26-year-old has 3 assists and 4 minutes in penalties.

The Hamilton Bulldogs’ roster now includes Christian Larrivée, Jerome Marois, Michael Ryder, Marc-André Thinel, Francois Beauchemin, Josef Balej, Tomas Plekanec, Marcel Hossa and Mike Komisarek. While the Utah Grizzlies’ roster now includes Mathieu Descoteaux and Eric Chouinard.

Through 3 preseason games Bulldogs’ scorers include Marois with 2 points (2-0-2); Plekanec with 2 points(1-1-2); Beauchemin with 1 goal; Thinel with 1 assist and Larrivée with an assist.
