Canadiens’ prospects update

Mathieu Garon -G (Drafted-96(2/44))

Garon was assigned to the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs. The trip down was pre-determined to be part of a 2-game stint. He was recalled on October 28th. He returned to the Habs with a 1-1 AHL record to go along with a 2.01 GAA, and .934 save percentage.

Eric Chouinard -F (Drafted-98(1/16))

Chouinard was assigned to the Utah Grizzlies of the AHL. He has only appeared in one game to date, as he’s still suffering from an injury. He was held off the scoreboard during that lone game.

Jason Ward -F (Drafted-97(1/11))

Ward managed 3 points through 3 games since our last update. He’s among the team’s scoring leaders, and has really stepped up his game this season. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs winger has played 7 games. He has 9 points (2-7-9), and is plus-7 with 7 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored shorthanded, and he’s directed 14 shots on goal.

Mike Komisarek -D (Drafted-01(1/7))

Komisarek is still adjusting to professional hockey. He’s picked up 3 points through his first 7 AHL games to go along with a plus-1 rating, and 8 minutes in penalties. The 6’4″, 240-lbs defenseman has also managed 16 shots on goal.

Tomas Plekanec -F (Drafted-01(3/71))

Plekanec has picked up 3 goals through his first 7 AHL games. All 3 of his goals have come during Hamilton’s last 3 games. The 5’10”, 200-lbs forward has a minus-1 rating and 4 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

Balej has picked up 3 points (1-2-3) through his first 7 AHL games. The 6’0″, 187-lbs winger has a minus-1 rating, and his lone goal was scored on the powerplay.

Marcel Hossa -C/W (Drafted-00(1/16))

Hossa has yet to hit his stride this season. Through 7 games he has only 2 points (1-1-2), and a plus-1 rating. The 6’2″, 211-lbs winger also has 4 minutes in penalties.

Francois Beauchemin -D (Drafted-98(3/75))

Beauchemin is among Hamilton’s most consistent defensive defensemen. He’s competed physically while maintaining a plus-5 rating. The 6’0′, 206-lbs defenseman has played 7 games. He has 1 goal as well as 15 minutes in penalties.

Marc-Andre Thinel -RW (Drafted-99(5/145))

Thinel has contributed offensively with the AHL’s Utah Grizzlies despite seeing limited ice-time. The 5’11’, 183-lbs winger has played 4 games. He has 2 points (1-1-2) to go along with 4 penalty minutes, and an even plus/minus. His lone goal was scored on the powerplay.

Michael Ryder -W (Drafted-98(8/216))

Ryder is in his third professional season, and is still looking for an opportunity. He’s played in 3 of Hamilton’s 7 games. The 6’1′, 195-lbs winger has 1 goal, and is plus-1 with 4 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 7 shots on goal.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

Jerome Marois has yet to play a game this season.

Duncan Milroy -RW (Drafted-01(2/37))

Milroy picked up 5 points through 3 games this week. His best offensive game came against Kamloops, as he scored 2 goals and added an assist during the 6-2 win. Overall, the 19-year-old has played 17 games. He has 20 points (11-9-20) to go along with 24 penalty minutes and an even plus/minus. The 6’0″, 198-lbs right winger also has 4 powerplay goals and 3 shorthanded markers.

Olivier Michaud -G (Free Agent-2001(3-y contract))

Shawinigan’s Olivier Michaud went 1-0-1 through 2 games this week. The win came during a 3-0 win over Rimouski. Despite a strong week, the 5’10’, 163-lbs goalie still needs to improve statistically. Through 14 games the 19-year-old has a 3-7-2 record, a 3.78 GAA, and an .881 save percentage.

Michael Lambert -F (Drafted-02(4/99))

Lambert managed 4 points through 3 games since our last update, and was plus-1 over the same span. Overall, the 6’2″, 182-lbs forward has played 18 games. He has 20 points (10-10-20), and is minus-1 with 8 minutes in penalties. Thee of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Jonathan Ferland -RW (Drafted-02(7/182))

Acadie Bathurst’s Jonathan Ferland picked up 3 points through 3 games this week, and is currently on a 4-game point-scoring streak. Overall, the 19-year-old has played 14 games. He has 25 points (13-12-25), and is plus-15 with a 33 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored short-handed. Both his plus/minus and goal totals are good enough for 3rd place among league leaders.

Christian Larrivée -F (Drafted-00(4/114))

Christian Larrivée managed 3 assists through 2 games this week. All of his assists came during a 5-4 loss to Halifax. Overall, the 6’3″, 195-lbs forward has 8 points (2-6-8), and is plus-3 with no minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

André Deveaux -C (Drafted-02(6/182))

Belleville’s André Deveaux managed 2 assists through 3 games this week. Each of his assists came during back-to-back wins over Windsor and Plymouth. Overall, the 6’4″, 210-lbs center has played 13 games. He has 8 points (3-5-8), and is plus-3 with 49 minutes in penalties.

Andrew Archer -D (Drafted-01(7/203))

Guelph’s Andrew Archer picked up 1 goal through 2 games this week. His goal came during a 3-2 loss to Toronto. Overall, the 6’4″, 212-lbs stay-at-home defenseman has played 15 games. He has 5 points (1-4-5), and is minus-2 with 34 minutes in penalties. Archer has a plus-5 rating through Guelph’s last 4 games.

Eric Himelfarb -C (Drafted-01(6/171))

Himelfarb has been incredibly consistent this season. He picked up 1 point through 2 games this week. He was shutout during a 2-1 win over Erie, thereby ending a 12-game point-scoring streak. Overall, he 5’10”, 186-lbs forward has 18 points (7-11-18), and is plus-3 with 10 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Tomas Linhart -D (Drafted-02(2/45))

Mississauga’s Tomas Linhart was shutout through 3 games this week. Although he has yet to produce offensively, his plus-6 rating is among the team’s best. The 6’2″, 214-lbs defenseman has played 16 games. He has 2 assists and is a previously mentioned plus-6, with 8 minutes in penalties.

Matt Shasby -D (Drafted-99(5/150))

Alaska-Anchorage University’s Matt Shasby managed 1 assists through 2 games since our last update. The 22-year-old finished last season as the Habs’ top scoring defensive prospect (points per game), and will captain the Seawolves this year. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs defenseman has 2 assists through 4 games to go along with 2 minutes in penalties.

Scott Selig -C/RW (Drafted-00(6/172))

Northeastern University’s Scott Selig picked up 2 assists through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’2″, 195-lbs. forward has played 5 games. He has 3 points (0-3-3), and is plus-1 with no minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 14 shots on goal.

Ryan Glenn -D (Drafted-00(5/145))

St. Lawrence University’s Ryan Glenn is enjoying his strongest offensive start since arriving at SLU. Overall, the 6’2″, 210-lbs. defenseman has played 6 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), and is minus-6 with 4 minutes in penalties. He also has a team-leading 18 shots on goal.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

Buturlin has finally contributed offensively, as he’s picked up points in 5 of Lada’s last 7 games. Overall, the enigmatic forward has played 15 games. He has 6 points (3-3-6) to go along with 8 minutes in penalties.

Alexander Perezhogin -C (Drafted-01(1/25))

Perezhogin scored 2 goals through 2 games this week. His goals came during a 6-2 win, and broke a 6-game pointless streak. The 6’0″, 190-lbs forward has played in each of Omsk’s 17 games this season. He has 9 points (6-3-9) with 8 minutes in penalties.

Konstantin Korneev -D (Drafted-02(9/275))

At only 18 years old Korneev remains the Canadiens youngest prospect. He picked up 1 assist since our last update. Overall, the 5’11”, 178-lbs defenseman has played 16 games. He has 3 points (0-3-3) to go along with 8 minutes in penalties.

Joni Puurula -G (Drafted-00(8/243))

HPK’s Joni Puurula played in 2 games this week; losing one and tying the other. Overall, the 20-year-old goalie has played parts of 13 games this season. He has a 5-4-4 record to go along with a 2.77 GAA, and .897 save percentage.

Johan Eneqvist -F (Drafted-00(4/109))

Leksands IF’s Johan Eneqvist was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’0″, 183-lbs forward has played 14 games. He has 3 points (1-2-3), and is plus-2 with 12 minutes in penalties.

Victor Ujcik -F (Drafted-01(9/266))

Slavia Praha’s Viktor Ujcik was moved to Plzen on October 22nd. Since the move he’s picked up 5 points through 3 games, including a 3 point debut. Overall, the 5’11”, 190-lbs winger has played 16 games. He has 9 points (6-3-9) to go along with 8 minutes in penalties, and an even plus/minus.

Vadim Tarasov -G (Drafted-99(7/196))

Metallurgist HK’s Vadim Tarasov played in parts of 2 games this week. Overall, the 5’11”, 187-lbs goalie has played in parts of 10 games this season. The 25-year-old has a 2-4-1 record to go along with a 3.17 GAA and an unofficial .889 save percentage.

Timo Vertala -W (Drafted-96(5/181))

Jokerit’s Vertala has played 15 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), and is plus-1 with 8 minutes in penalties.

Hab you Heard?

-Kim Staal, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’96 has yet to play a Swedish Elite League game this season.

-Niklas Anger, the Habs’ 5th round pick in ’95 plays with Brynas IF of the Swedish Elite League. He’s played 14 games and has 10 points (6-4-10). He’s minus-5 with 4 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay, and he leads the team in scoring.

-Ilkka Mikkola, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’97 has 2 assists through 3 games with Jokerit this season. He’s plus-1 with zero minutes in penalties.
