Canadiens’ prospects update

Mathieu Garon -G (Drafted-96(2/44))

Garon cleared waivers on November 8th, and was assigned to Hamilton indefinitely. He had already played two games during a previous AHL stint, where he posted a 1-1 record to go along with a 2.01 GAA, and .934 save percentage.

Eric Chouinard -F (Drafted-98(1/16))

The Utah Grizzlies’ Eric Chouinard returned from injury on November 11th. He’s now played 2 AHL games this season. He’s yet to register point, penalty minute or shot.

Jason Ward -F (Drafted-97(1/11))

Ward managed 3 points through 3 games this week. He’s among the team’s scoring leaders, and continues to contribute both offensively and defensively. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs winger has played 12 games. He has 14 points (5-9-14), and is plus-6 with 9 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while another was produced shorthanded. He’s also directed 31 shots on goal.

Ward is averaging 1.17 points-per-game this season; an improvement of 0.44 PPG over last year’s 0.73 PPG average.

Mike Komisarek -D (Drafted-01(1/7))

Komisarek continues to improve with each passing game. He picked up 4 points through 3 games this week, including a 3-assist night on November 10th. Overall, the 6’4″, 240-lbs defenseman has played 12 games. He has 8 points (1-7-8), and is plus-1 with 20 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 29 shots on net.

Komisarek’s 8 points are 2 more than Ron Hainsey’s 2001-02 total through his first 12 AHL games.

Tomas Plekanec -F (Drafted-01(3/71))>Plekanec managed 1 points through 2 games this week. His lone point came during a 5-3 loss to Syracuse on November 6th. Overall, the 5’10”, 200-lbs forward has played 11 games. He has 5 points (3-2-5), and is plus-1 with 6 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay, and he’s directed 14 shots on goal.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

Balej scored 1 goal through 3 games this week. His goal came during a 6-1 win over Wilkes-Barre. Overall, the 6’0″, 187-lbs winger has played 12 games. He has 5 points (2-3-5), and is minus-1 rating with 2 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay, and he’s directed 27 shots on goal.

Marcel Hossa -C/W (Drafted-00(1/16))

Hossa picked up 3 points through 3 games this week. His offensive outburst included 2 points during a 6-1 win over Wilkes-Barre. Overall, the 6’2″, 211-lbs winger has played 12 games. He has 7 points (3-4-7), and is plus-5 with 8 minutes in penalties. He’s also directed 16 shots on goal.

Hossa is averaging 0.58 points-per-game this season; a regression of 0.06 PPG compared to last year’s 0.64 PPG average.

Francois Beauchemin -D (Drafted-98(3/75))

Beauchemin is among Hamilton’s most improved players. He managed 1 assist through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’0′, 206-lbs defenseman has played 11 games He has 2 points (1-1-2), and is plus-6 with 19 minutes in penalties. He’s also directed 17 shots on goal.

Beauchemin is averaging 0.18 points-per-game this season; a regression of 0.16 PPG compared to last year’s 0.34 PPG average. That said, his plus/minus is up 17 swing-points from last season’s minus-11 rating.

Marc-Andre Thinel -RW (Drafted-99(5/145))

Thinel has contributed offensively with the AHL’s Utah Grizzlies despite seeing limited ice-time. The 5’11’, 183-lbs winger has played 10 games. He has 4 points (1-3-4) to go along with 4 penalty minutes, and an even plus/minus. His lone goal was scored on the powerplay.

Thinel is averaging 0.40 points-per-game this season; an improvement of 0.26 PPG over last year’s disappointing 0.14 PPG average.

Michael Ryder -W (Drafted-98(8/216))

Ryder scored 1 goal through 1 game this past week. His goal came during a 6-1 win over Wilkes-Barre, but he was not dressed for the following game. Overall, The 6’1′, 195-lbs winger has played 4 games. He has 2 goals, and is plus-2 with 4 minutes in penalties. He’s also directed 13 shots on goal; a team-leading average of over 3 shots per game.

Ryder is also averaging 0.50 points-per-game this season; a regression of 0.06 PPG compared to last year’s 0.56 PPG average.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

Jerome Marois has played 4 games with the ECHL’s Columbus Cottonmouths. He has 3 assists, and is minus-4 with 4 minutes in penalties.

Christian Larrivée -F (Drafted-00(4/114))

Christian Larrivée picked up 2 points through 2 games this week. Both his goals came during a 5-2 win over Bathurst on November 7th. Overall, the 6’3″, 195-lbs forward has 13 points (5-8-13), and is plus-6 with 6 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Larrivée is averaging 1.08 points-per-game this season; a regression of 0.31 PPG compared to last year’s 1.39 PPG average. Keep in mind that he played much of last season with The Minnesota Wild’s Pierre-Marc Bouchard.

Duncan Milroy -RW (Drafted-01(2/37))

Milroy picked up 3 points since our last update. Overall, the 6’0″, 198-lbs right winger has played 21 games. He has 27 points (14-13-27), and is plus-2 with 24 penalty minutes. Five of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 3 others were shorthanded markers.

Milroy is averaging 1.29 points-per-game this season; a slight regression of 0.07 PPG compared to last year’s 1.36 PPG average.

Olivier Michaud -G (Free Agent-2001(3-y contract))

Shawinigan’s Olivier Michaud went 1-1-1 through 3 games this week. Through his last 8 games the 19-year-old has returned to last year’s form; posting a .929 save percentage, as well as a 2.38 GAA. Overall, the 5’10’, 163-lbs goalie has played 19 games. He has a 4-10-3 record, a 3.22 GAA, and an .894 save percentage.

Michael Lambert -F (Drafted-02(4/99))

Lambert managed 2 points through 3 games this week, and was plus-2 over the same span. Overall, the 6’2″, 182-lbs forward has played 25 games. He has 26 points (14-12-26), and is plus-3 with 15 minutes in penalties. Four of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Lambert is averaging 1.04 points-per-game this season; an improvement of 0.29 PPG over last year’s 0.75 PPG average.

Jonathan Ferland -RW (Drafted-02(7/182))

Acadie Bathurst’s Jonathan Ferland picked up 2 points through 3 games this week. He was shutout during a 6-1 loss to Baie-Comeau, thereby ending an 8-game point-scoring streak. Overall, the 6’2″, 206-lbs right winger has played 20 games. He has 33 points (17-16-33), and is plus-20 with a 48 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 3 others were scored short-handed.

Ferland is averaging 1.65 points-per-game this season; an improvement of 0.30 PPG over last year’s 1.35 PPG average.

Belleville’s André Deveaux did not appear in any games this week. Overall, the 6’4″, 210-lbs center has played 14 games. He has 8 points (3-5-8), and is plus-3 with 57 minutes in penalties.

Deveaux is averaging 0.57 points-per-game this season; an improvement of 0.24 PPG over last year’s 0.33 PPG average.

Andrew Archer -D (Drafted-01(7/203))

Guelph’s Andrew Archer picked up 3 assists through 3 games this week, and is currently on a 3-game point-scoring streak. Overall, the 6’4″, 212-lbs stay-at-home defenseman has played 19 games. He has 8 points (1-7-8), and is minus-2 with 38 minutes in penalties.

Archer is averaging 0.42 points-per-game this season; an improvement of 0.20 PPG over last year’s 0.22 PPG average.

Eric Himelfarb -C (Drafted-01(6/171))

Himelfarb picked up 2 points through 2 games this week. He was shutout during a 5-4 loss to Ottawa, thereby ending a 4-game point-scoring streak. The 19-year -old has points in 16 of Barrie’s 18 games this season. Overall, he 5’10”, 186-lbs forward has played 18 games. He has 24 points (11-13-24), and is minus-2 with 18 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Himelfarb is averaging 1.33 points-per-game this season; an improvement of 0.09 PPG over last year’s 1.24 PPG average.

Tomas Linhart -D (Drafted-02(2/45))

Mississauga’s Tomas Linhart was shutout through 1 game this week. Although he has yet to produce offensively, his plus-3 rating continues to be among the team’s best. Overall, the 6’2″, 214-lbs defenseman has played 19 games. He has 2 assists and is a previously mentioned plus-3, with 10 minutes in penalties.

Christopher Higgins -C (Drafted-02(1/14))

Higgins picked up 4 points through 2 games this season. He was ejected for his involvement in a brawl during Yale’s season opener; the ejection resulted in a one-game suspension that was served during the team’s 6-2 loss to Cornell on November 8th. Overall, the 5’11”, 195-lbs forward has played 2 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4) to go along with 15 minutes in penalties.

Matt Shasby -D (Drafted-99(5/150))

Alaska-Anchorage University’s Matt Shasby managed 3 points through 2 games this week. The Seawolves’ captain is currently on a 2-game point-scoring streak. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs defenseman has played 8 games. He has 6 points (0-6-6) to go along with 6 minutes in penalties.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

Buturlin has finally contributed offensively, as he’s picked up points in 6 of Lada’s last 8 games. Overall, the enigmatic forward has played 16 games. He has 8 points (3-5-8) to go along with 37 minutes in penalties.

Buturlin is averaging 0.50 points-per-game this season; a substantial improvement of 0.32 PPG over last year’s 0.18 PPG average.

Alexander Perezhogin -C (Drafted-01(1/25))

Perezhogin competed for Russia during last week’s Karjala Cup, but was shutout through 3 games. Overall, the 6’0″, 190-lbs forward has played in 19 Russia Super League games this season. He has 10 points (6-4-10) with 8 minutes in penalties.

Konstantin Korneev -D (Drafted-02(9/275))

At only 18 years old Korneev remains the Canadiens youngest prospect. Overall, the 5’11”, 178-lbs defenseman has played 19 games. He has 3 points (0-3-3) to go along with 8 minutes in penalties.

Joni Puurula -G (Drafted-00(8/243))

HPK’s Joni Puurula did not play in any games this week; as an international tournament suspended play in most European leagues. Overall, the 20-year-old goalie has played parts of 16 games this season. He has a 6-4-4 record to go along with a 2.47 GAA, and .905 save percentage.

Johan Eneqvist -F (Drafted-00(4/109))

Leksands IF’s Johan Eneqvist did not play in any games this week. Overall, the 6’0″, 183-lbs forward has played 17 games. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is plus-4 with 18 minutes in penalties.

Eneqvist is averaging 0.24 points-per-game this season; an incredibly slight regression of 0.03 PPG compared to last year’s 0.27 PPG average.

Victor Ujcik -F (Drafted-01(9/266))

Slavia Praha’s Viktor Ujcik was moved to Plzen on October 22nd. Since the move he’s picked up 6 points through 4 games, including a 3-point debut. Overall, the 5’11”, 190-lbs winger has played 17 games. He has 10 points (6-4-10), and is plus-1 with 8 minutes in penalties.

Ujcik is averaging 0.59 points-per-game this season; a tangible regression of 0.33 PPG compared to last year’s 0.92 PPG average.

Vadim Tarasov -G (Drafted-99(7/196))

Metallurgist HK’s Vadim Tarasov did not play in any games this week, although he was named to the Russian team roster that competed in last week’s Karjala Cup; Tarasov didn’t see any game action in the tournament. Overall, the 5’11”, 187-lbs goalie has played in parts of 12 games this season. The 25-year-old has a 3-4-1 record to go along with a 2.96 GAA and an unofficial .892 save percentage.

Timo Vertala -W (Drafted-96(5/181))

Jokerit’s Vertala has played 18 games. He has 5 points (2-3-5), and is plus-1 with 8 minutes in penalties.

Hab you Heard?

-Martti Jarventie, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’01 was transferred from Hamilton to Ilves Tampere in the Finnish Elite League on November 1st.

-Kim Staal, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’96 has yet to play a Swedish Elite League game this season.

-Niklas Anger, the Habs’ 5th round pick in ’95 plays with Brynas IF of the Swedish Elite League. He’s played 17 games and has 10 points (6-4-10). He’s minus-5 with 4 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay, and he leads the team in scoring.

-Ilkka Mikkola, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’97 has 2 assists through 6 games with Jokerit this season. He’s plus-1 with zero minutes in penalties.
