Prospect Notes: Colorado Avalanche prospect Sergei Soin centered Soviet Wings’ top line and looked effective and threatened on several occasions.  New Jersey Devils prospect Andrei Posnov looked very strong for Spartak. He has become a more effective scoring threat since the arrival of the experienced center Vadim Shakhraichuk.

Prospect Notes: Montreal Canadiens prospect Alexander Perezhogin scored two goals, one from Kharitonov’s centering pass and the other by taking the puck from behind the net and stuffing it past Amur’s goalie.

Prospect Notes: Philadelphia Flyers prospect Alexander Drozdetsky collected another goal, though this one was largely due to the goaltenders mistake – letting in Alex’s shot from the blue line. He had another opportunity in the second period to get CSKA within one goal, by tried to shoot instead of passing to his open teammate. Another Phulade lphia Flyers prospect Konstantin Baranov’s goal was much prettier – he streaked down the right flank and then beat the goalie. 

 

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl vs. SKA St. Petersburg 3:1

Goals: 1:0 Zolotov 2 (Drozdetsky, 2.12), 2:0 Guren 2 (D.Subbotin, Polushin, 12.19, pp.), 2:1 Kharitonov 8 (Taratukhin, 13.51), 3:1 Drozdetsky 9 (Leschev, 19.03, pp.), 3:2 Sushinsky 7 (Ryabikin, Vlasak, 44.42, pp.), 3:3 Sushinsky 8 (Vlasak, 59.49).

Prospect Notes: 2003 NHL Entry Draft prospect Nikolai Zherdev looked very solid in the game. He had several scoring chances and set up his linemates on a  few occasions. St. Louis Blues prospect Alexei Shkotov had a rough time against Avangard’s stronger, larger defense and got knocked down a couple of times, slowly getting up each time. Montreal Canadiens prospect Alexander Perezhogin had a great chance where he went around four CSKA players and faked out the goalie, but couldn’t put the puck up over the sprawled goaltender.

Prospect Notes: After a 4 game drought, Atlanta Thrashers prospect Yuri Dobryshkin finally scored his 16th of the season to get back into the tie with Tysplakov for the sniper lead.  He has cooled off quite a bit as of late  – scoring just two goals in the past 13 games after netting 14 goals in the previous 23.  Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Yevgeniy Petrochinin continued to play on Severstal’s top defensive pairing and after scoring a goal in the previous game, came up with an assist in this one. Chicago Blackhawks prospect Anton Babchuk got limited ice time on SKA’s fourth defensive pairing. 

 

Metallurg Magnitagorsk vs. Molot Prikamye 2:0

Amur Khabarovsk vs. Lada Togliatti 1:2 OT

Goals: 1:0 Badyukov 8 (Spiridonov, Naumov, 3.23), 1:1 M.Sevostyanov 5 (Gutov, 44.44), 1:2 Boikov 8 (Grigorenko, 63.46, pp.)

Prospect Notes: Detroit Red Wings prospect Igor Grigorenko had a few great chances, including one where he puckhandled around two Amur players before being stopped called by Amur’s goalie Westlund in the second period. He assisted Boikov Lada’s overtime goal, feeding the latter with a nice pass to the crease. Another Detroit prospect, Alexander Seluyanov, continued to play on Lada’s top defensive pairing, logging plenty of ice time on the power play and shorthanded units. 

 

Sibir Novosibirsk vs. Ak Bars Kazan 1:2

January 23, 2003, Novosibirsk

Goals: 1:0 Klimovich 8 (Nabokov, 17.50), 1:1 Shargorodsky 4 (Zaripov, 34.25), 1:2 Zelepukin 5 (Zavyalov, 63.27).

Prospect Notes: Boston Bruins prospect Sergei Zinovjev centered Ak Bars’ top unit.  Interstingly, for part of the game, Sibir fielded the “kid” line with Buffalo’s Kryukov centering Edmonton’s Mikhnov and Chicago’s Golovin.  

 

Metallurg Novokuznetsk vs. Dynamo Moscow 3:3

Goals: 1:0 Antonenko 6 (Dyilevsky, 10.09, pp.), 1:1 Ovechkin 6 (Zolotov, Kuvaldin, 29.41), 1:2 Savchenkov 15 (Lavinsh, Kudashov< span lang="RU" style="font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black">, 30.55), 1:3 Tereschenko 7 (Savchenkov, Nikulin, 35.14, pp.), 2:3 Pankov 3 (Reshetnikov, Antonenko, 50.07), 3:3 Kadeikin 5 (Pupkov, Dyilevsky, 51.13).
Prospect Notes: 2004 NHL Entry Draft prospect Alexander Ovechkin was fielded on Dynamo’s top unit and brought back solid dividends.  He scored his sixth of the year and had a couple of other good scoring chances.  Dynamo played a three line game with an extra forward – who was Boston Bruins prospect Vladislav Evseev. Dalas Stars prospect Alexei Tereschenko skated on Dynamo’s third line with 2003 NHL Entry Draft prospect Mirnov.

 

Neftkhimik Nizhnekamsk vs. Salavat Yulayev 1:0

January 23, 2003, Nizhnekamsk

Goals: 1:0 Sarmatin 3 (Simakov, 37.58, pp.).

Prospect Notes: Edmonton Oilers prospect Yevgeniy Muratov had a good game. He played intelligent hockey, was good defensively and set up a couple of scoring chances.

 

Mechel Chelyabinsk vs. Soviet Wings Moscow 1:1

January 23, 2003, Chelyabinsk

Goals: 0:1 Gordiyuk 3 (Ivanov, 23.45), 1:1 Gusmanov 4 (Galkin, 56.44).

Prospect Notes: Colorado Avalanche prospect Sergei Soin wore the captain’s C and also centered the Soviet Wings top line.  Los Angeles Kings and Montreal Canadiens defenisve prospeects Mikhail Lyubushin and Konstantin Korneev continued to skate on the Wings’ top defensive pairing.

 

Spartak Moscow vs. Lokomotiv Yaroslavl 2:5

January 23, 2003, Moscow

Goals: 0:1 Samyilin 11 (Antipov, Vlasenkov, 0.47), 0:2 V.Butsayev 10 (Kovalenko, 12.08), 0:3 Peterek 8 (Nemchinov, Tkachenko, 19.30), 0:4 Vorobiev 7 (Nepriayev, Grebeshkov, 22.47), 1:4 Arekayev 9 (Khatsey, Vostrikov, 33.49), 1:5 Y.Butsayev 1 (Glazachev, Vasiliev, 39.45), 2:5 M. Rybin 6 (A. Rybin, 46.03).

Prospect Notes: 2003 NHL Entry Draft prospect Konstantin Glazachev delivered a solid game on Lokomotiv’s young line with Washington’s Ivan Nepriayev and Chicago’s Pavel Vorobiev. He was a credible scoring threat on the ice and created a couple of god chances for his linemates, one of which resulted in a goal by Y. Butasyev. Spartak’s Maxim Rybin (Anaheim Mighty Ducks prospect) continued to show why he is loved by Spartak fans.  He left his heart on the ice, giving it all and scoring one of the team’s two goals.
