Building upon the momentum of our January launch, the second issue of Hockey’s Future has been printed and shipped out to subscribers. Watch out for promotional copies, which will be available at the Frozen Four in Buffalo April 10-12.
This issue features a great cover shot of University of Minnesota Golden Gopher defenseman Keith Ballard flying through the air to deliver a hit on Ferris State’s Jeff Legue during the NCAA West Regional. The Gophers went on to win the game 7-4 to qualify for the Frozen Four along with the Cornell Big Red, the University of Michigan Wolverines and the University of New Hampshire Wildcats.
The April issue of Hockey’s Future features in-depth stories on all four teams and their accomplishments this season. Each feature story, as well as Tony Bryson’s special Frozen Four Game Misconduct column, is accompanied by an awesome full-color action photo.
Add in Christa Moore’s article touting the impact that college free agents have on the NHL each season and this edition of Hockey’s Future is a must-have for NCAA fans.
But, the coverage doesn’t just end with the NCAA. This issue also features a round-up of Canadian Junior A Hockey League playoff action as well as a feature story on the new all-time leading scorer of the Alberta Junior Hockey League Mark Bomersback, who’s off to play at Ferris State next season. Jason Shaner chipped in with a feature on the United States Hockey League with write-ups on the members of the 2002-03 USHL Top Prospects Team. Women’s hockey makes its debut in the HF Mag with a feature story on Winnipeg’s Jennifer Botterill, the two-time winner of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award.
For the second issue in a row Shane Malloy wrote the center-spread story, this time on the four Central Division candidates vying for the Calder Trophy along with full-color action photos of each. Meanwhile, Mark Fischel provided us with coverage of the Topps/NHL YoungStars Game and the NHL All-Star Game from his home base in Florida. Steve Feldman came through with a full page of American Hockey League coverage, including features on Jason Spezza and Mike Komisarek who have both spent time in the AHL and NHL this season.
There’s also four pages of Canadian Hockey League coverage as well as a full page feature by RussianProspects.com webmaster and editor Eugene Belashchenko on the top Russian prospects heading into this June’s NHL Entry Draft in Nashville, Tenn. Finally, there’s a two-page spread detailing the Top 60 NHL prospects as ranked by the Hockey’s Future Prospect Advisor.
