Mid Season Update on Bruin Prospects 16-20

By Bob Willwerth

Kris Vernarsky

Pro. Bruins GP 44 G 11 A 13 PTS PIM 33

Kris is having another solid quarter dropping his +/- to -7 . Recalled by the Bruins to replace injured players Kris was called upon to play steady defense in P.J. Axelsson’s position on the third line . Kris also spent some playing time with Joe Thornton and Glenn Murray . Size , strength , and skating ability are there , he needs to put all of his game together . He incurred a serious cut to his eyelid and sat out several games until double vision cleared . With maturity Kris could become a solid 3rd or 4th line NHLer .

Andrew Alberts

Boston College GP 24 G 5 A 7 PTS 12 PIM 42

Here is a real fast riser . Only a sophmore Andrew is having an unexpected All League season . The surprise is not his defense or his ruggedness but his all around ability including offense . He has become adept at one timing a hard slap shot from the point on the power play . At the beginning of the season I thought Andrew would need all 4 years at Boston College to realize his potential but it will be interesting to see how the Bruins react to Andrew’s accelerated progress . A low round bargain Andrew has everything necessary to become a NHL defenseman .

Kevin Dalman

Pro. Bruins GP 41 G 0 A 12 PTS 12 PIM 45

Making the jump from junior to the AHL Kevin’s season and quarter have been signified by steady play . The Bruins will give Kevin enough time to develope his offense . Generally taking a regular turn but not playing on the power play which was his specialty in junior . Brennan , Morrisonn , Kelleher , and now Jillson are manning the point on the power play . Brennan is up with the Bruins now and playing solidly which may allow Kevin some time there . Another player with a chance to eventually make it to the NHL . Kevin is a good +14 .

Peter Metcalf

Pro. Bruins GP 32 G 0 A 6 PTS 6 PIM 20

A big time Hockey East defenseman and Maine captain is making the adjustment to the pro game . Playing behind several quality AHL defensemen and highly rated prospects . Has the skill and ability to become a good pro defenseman . Good offensively may need to improve physically .

Chris Kelleher

Pro. Bruins GP 40 G 4 A 12 PTS 16 PIM 24

A defenseman who would have a higher rating if it weren’t for his age . Chris is having another good AHL season and quarter . He plays in all situations and has puck skills . Chris seems to be a forgotten man . Remember at age 30 Rich Brennan is finding a home with the Boston Bruins and Chris hopefully will get a chance to play in the NHL .
