The Top 20 Devils Prospects are updated.
You will notice some new faces with the likes of North Dakota winger James Massen, who potted 15 goals, and Oshawa pivot Brandon Nolan, who exploded this season, leading the Generals in goals. He picked a good time to have a great year, as the Devils have to sign him before this June’s entry draft.
Also to be noticed is the rise of some of the top prospects in the organization. Minnesota d-man Paul Martin filled the shoes of the departed Jordan Leopold and jumped 4 spots in the rankings. Finnish power winger Tuomas Pihlman had a great season for JYP finishing second in team scoring, including 19 goals. He jumped 5 spots. Lastly, the biggest jump was made by last year’s top draft selection, Anton Kadeykin. With Sarnia, Kadeykin made a smooth adjustment to North American style hockey, and jumped an amazing 10 places.
Two of the top prospects, Brian Gionta and Christian Berglund have graduated. Gionta stuck with the Devils all year, scored 12 goals, and showed lots of promise for the future. And allthough Berglund was up and down all year from Albany to New Jersey, he like Gionta, showed lots of future greatness.
At the top, there is no change, as goaltender Ari Ahonen continues to be the top prospect in the organization. Despite numbers that were not as strong as last season, Ari is continuing to develop well. With Martin Brodeur blocking his path, there is no need to rush him.
