Malek Shuts Out Pardubice 1-0 to win Czech Championship

Roman Malek and Slavia Prague shut out Pardubice 1-0 in the seventh and deciding game of the Czech Extraliga finals. It was Malek’s 5th shutout of the playoffs. The win comes on the heels of Slavia blowing a three games to one series lead against Pardubice. Malek, who had a 1.30 GAA and 4 shuts coming into game 5 of the finals, was strafed for 9 goals over games 5 and 6, as Pardubice’s vaunted offense got untracked and took the series the full seven games.

Jeff Woywitka and the Red Deer Rebels finished off Medicine Hat in 6 games in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference semi-finals. Woywitka had an assist in the clinching game. Overall, he has 6 points (all helpers) and is a +8 in playoffs. Red Deer plays Brandon in the conference finals, which start on Friday.

Mathieu Brunelle’s Hull Olympiques play against Val’D Or in the QMJHL LeBel Conference finals. Game 1 is tonight. Brunelle leads all QMHJHL playoff goal scorers with 10 tallies in 9 games.

Enforcer Thierry Douville will be unavailable to his Baie Comeau team for the first two games of their QMJHL Dilio Conference finals series against Halifax. Douville received a two game suspension for swinging his stick into Jason Kostadine’s face in Baie Comeau’s series clinching Game 5 win over Quebec.

Maine winger Colin Shields is playing for Great Britain in the B-pool World Championship tournament.
