Capitals sign Alexander Semin

Alexander Semin was signed to a three year deal with the Washington Capitals, as reported by his Russian Super League team, Lada Togliatti http://www.hclada.ru. Per Washington Capitals club policy, financial terms of the contract have not been disclosed.

Semin will likely miss the Caps Rookie Camp, which has already started off-ice training at the Washington Capitals training facility in Piney Orchard, MD. Alexander is currently taking part in a tournament in Finland with Lada, however he will likely take part in Washington's team training camp and pre-season. Semin will have the option of playing in AHL Portland or returning to his Russian team if he does not make the Washington club this fall.

Semin led the Russian Super League in scoring during the 2002-03 playoffs, and was in the top five overall during the second half of last season. He led his squad to the semi-finals with 5 goals and 4 assists in 10 matches and was +3. Semin was also recently awarded to play for Team Russia in the WJC.
