CHL Update (Oct 17, 2003)
It is time once again to take a look at prospects in the Columbus Blue Jackets organization currently playing in the CHL 2003-04 season.

The Western Hockey League

The Columbus Blue Jackets have several players spending the 2003-04 season in the Western Hockey League. Brandon Wheat King teammates Tim Konsorada and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen were selected in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft, as well as Steven Goertzen of the Seattle Thunderbirds, also selected in 2002.

Steven Goertzen - Right Wing/Defense - Seattle Thunderbirds - Selected in the 7th Round (225th Overall) in 2002
What else can be said about Seattle Thunderbirds Steven Goertzen. He continues to play at a similar pace, chipping in with the odd offensive burst, and contributing strongly in the defensive zone. Goertzen continues to battle on a weaker Western Hockey League club, which sees the Stony Plain, AB native tied for the club lead in plus/minus, with a +5 rating, on a team that has been outscored 96-83 in the 2003-04 season.

Tim Konsorada - Right Wing - Brandon Wheat Kings - Selected in the 6th Round (168th Overall) in 2002
No news certainly is good news in regards to the status of Tim Konsorada. Konsorada, still recovering from shoulder surgery after discovering problems at the Columbus Blue Jackets Developmental Camp is slated to be sidelined through the new year.

Ole-Kristian Tollefsen - Defense - Brandon Wheat Kings - Selected in the 3rd Round (65th Overall) in 2002
What a difference a ten game stretch can make. Brandon defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen has been just about as hot as any on the Wheat Kings over the course of the last three weeks, registering eight points in nine games, seven of which are assists. The offensive game of Tollefsen has come around in a big way, without compromise of his defensive zone play. With the emergence of Aaron Johnson for the Syracuse Crunch/Columbus Blue Jackets, could Ole-Kristian Tollefsen be looking to make a name for himself in a similar fashion to which Johnson did with the Rimouski Oceanic and Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL?

The Ontario Hockey League

The Columbus Blue Jackets have a pair of prospects currently playing in the Ontario Hockey League. Defensemen Marc Methot of the London Knights and Trevor Hendrikx of the Peterborough Petes are 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft Selections, while Columbus' second round selection Dan Fritsche, who may be returned to the Sarnia Sting, continues to skate with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Dan Fritsche - Center - Sarnia Sting - Selected in the 2nd Round (46th Overall) in 2003
An interesting choice surrounds Columbus Blue Jackets forward Danny Fritsche. Fritsche, who has dedicated himself to joining the United States World Junior Championship squad, may find himself back in the Ontario Hockey League shortly after the new year. Rumblings out of the Columbus community seem to display the notion that Danny would be better served playing twenty minutes a night in an offensive role with the already impressive Sting, instead of ten minutes of icetime per game in a checking role with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Trevor Hendrikx - Defense - Peterborough Petes - Selected in the 9th Round (283th Overall) in 2003
After starting the season with a meagre six points in 17 games, Trevor Hendrikx has uncharacteristically began to contribute with a bit of offensive flair, to match his nasty mean streak and thundering fists. Interesting enough, although only 27 games into the new Ontario Hockey League season, Hendrikx has already exceeded his career totals in both assists and points. Previously, the rugged blueliner had a career high of eight assists and nine points. Hendrikx already has ten assists this season, surpassing both totals.

Marc Methot - Defense - London Knights - Selected in the 6th Round (168th Overall) in 2003
In the span of ten games, London Knights defenseman Marc Methot managed to match his season output since our last update, putting up two points in the last ten games. Methot, definitely not known for any offense whatsoever, isn't counted on to provide anything other then crease-clearing defense, something he's executed well with the Knights.

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

The Columbus Blue Jackets have two players currently playing in the Quebec Major Junior League. Mathieu Gravel, selected in the 8th round of the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft, as well as Philippe Dupuis of the Gatineau Olympiques, selected four rounds earlier in the same draft.

Mathieu Gravel
- Left Wing - Shawinigan Cataractes - Selected in the 8th Round (233rd Overall) in 2003

Mathieu Gravel continues to go about his game, one that seemingly is lacking in intensity. Gravel has a massive 6'3" frame, but fails to utilize it on a nightly basis. His touch in the offensive end is also leaving something to be desired, as he is off his scoring pace from last season, which saw him register 24 goals and 50 points in 72 games. As it stands now, Gravel is on pace for roughly 11 goals.

Philippe Dupuis - Center - Gatineau Olympiques - Selected in the 4th Round (104th Overall) in 2003
Gatineau forward Philippe Dupuis has slowed after coming strong out of the gates. If his slowing pace wasn't enough, the injury bug has begun to poke its head out, attacking Dupuis. Philippe has missed several for the Olympiques due to a concussion, and has been listed as day-to-day by the organization. Dupuis managed a meager five games since our last update, shaking off the effects of injury.
