The Disciplinary Committee of the 2004 IIHF World U20 Championship suspended Finnish forward Lennart Petrell for two games following a severe check to the head during the game against the Czech Republic in Hämeenlinna, Finland on Sunday, December 28.

Petrell (IFK Helsinki) recived a match penalty and an automatic one-game suspension for injuring defenseman Michal Barinka (Norfolk Admirals, AHL) four minutes into the third period of the game. Upon reviewing the sequence on video, the Disciplinary Committee added one game to the automatic suspension.

Petrell will miss the game against Ukraine on December 30 and against Switzerland on December 31.

Peterll, skating at a high pace, delivered a hard check to the head area with his shoulder as Barinka was making a pass out of his own zone. The check caused a broken nose, laceration of the face area and a mild concussion.

In other news, Switzerland have confirmed yet another injury case. After the injuries to Florian Conz, Romano Lemm, Tobias Stephan, Philippe Furrer and Caryl Neuenschwander, they were now forced to send Kevin Romy home with a hip injury. Romy played the first game of the tournament before picking up the injury which turned out to be too serious for him to continue playing.
