The Columbus Blue Jackets entered the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft needing help at all positions. Holding the second selection overall in the draft allowed Scott Howson and Co. to begin their building efforts in a big way, and they did just that with the selection of defenseman Ryan Murray from the WHL's Everett Silvertips.
Murray is a steady rearguard with a good head on his shoulders and leadership qualities, attributes that should help to eventually settle the situation along the Blue Jackets' blue line. Many scouts felt that Murray is the most NHL-ready defenseman in this draft, so fans of the team could see their prized possession on a regular basis as soon as this fall.
Murray spoke with the media about his selection by the Blue Jackets, a conversation that is captured in this video.
