Although the Toronto Maple Leafs and their GM, Brian Burke, were presented with trade options for their fifth overall selection at the 2012 NHL Draft, they elected to instead hang onto the pick to choose defenseman Morgan Rielly of the WHL's moose Jaw Warriors.

The selection of Rielly came as somewhat of a surprise to both media and fans, but Burke and Co. had a strong conviction about Rielly despite that player's injury-shortened season.  Although the pick caused a bit of consternation in Leafs Nation, Rielly does possess enough talent to eventually make his selection look like a wise one.

Burke spoke with the media at the draft about choosing Rielly, and about trades that the team turned down for that fifth overall pick.
