The parade of defensemen chosen in the top 10 of the 2012 NHL Draft's first round continued with the selection of Red Deer Rebels defender Matt Dumba by the Minnesota Wild with the seventh pick overall.
A case could be made for Dumba being the best offensive defenseman in this draft, one that also likes to throw his body around. His performance at the U-18 World Junior Championship for Canada did nothing to dispel this notion as he finished as that tournament's leading scorer and was named the Best Defenseman.
As the rebuilding process for the Wild continues, the team continues to add solid, young talent like Dumba to a core group that should be truly competitive in the near future.
Dumba talked to the media about his selection by the Wild and about the excitement of hearing his name called from the podium.
