New York Islanders Prospects Sylvain Michaud

Jeremy Colliton, the 58th pick overall in the 2003 draft, headlines the list of seven New York Islanders prospects playing in the CHL in the 2004-05 season.

Jeremy Colliton, C - Prince Albert, WHL

Height: 6’2, Weight: 195 lbs., DOB - 1985-04-16

A second round pick, 58th overall in 2003, Prince Albert Raiders captain Jeremy Colliton is in his fourth season with the club. Noted for having an impressive combination of skill, including his skating, size, soft hands and a willingness to battle every time he is on the ice. He was a member of the Canadian silver medal winning team at the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championships and has been invited to the selection camp this year as well. Colliton is currently tied for first on the Raiders with 14 goals along with Kyle Chipchura (MON). In 34 games he leads the team with 22 assists and 36 points.

Blake Comeau, RW – Kelowna, WHL

Height: 6’1, Weight: 207 lbs., DOB - 1986-02-18

A second round pick in the 2004 draft, 47th overall, Blake Comeau is a member of the 2004 Memorial Cup winning Kelowna Rockets. He is known for playing a physical game and working hard on the ice, as well as being a strong two-way player at both ends of the ice. Comeau had 123 penalty minutes in 71 games last season, good for third on the team. In 33 games so far this season his 12 goals are good for first on the team and his 24 points put him in a tie for second place behind Shea Weber (NAS).

Cody Blanshan, D - Medicine Hat, WHL

Height: 6’1, Weight: 214 lbs., DOB - 1984-02-14

An eighth round pick in 2003, Cody Blanshan is a strong blueliner with good size. A member of the 2003-04 WHL champion Medicine Hat Tigers, Blanshan is a physical, fearless player that is a defensive defenseman and has been noted for his toughness. In 70 games last season, he had 11 points and a +25 rating. Blanshan has three goals and 10 points so far this season and his 63 penalty minutes are good for second on the team behind Tommy Maxwell.

Stefan Blaho, LW - Sudbury, OHL

Height: 6’1, Weight: 195 lbs., DOB - 1985-06-22

A fourth round pick in 2003, Stefan Blaho is in his second season with the Sudbury Wolves of the WHL. He comes from Trencin, Slovakia, where NHLers Marion Hossa, Peter Bondra and Ziggy Palffy also hail from. Noted as good skater who plays a North American style game, he is not afraid to drop the gloves. A member of the national junior team for his country last year, Blaho may be part of the team again this year. In 51 games last year he had 16 points and 58 penalty minutes for the Wolves. So far, in 33 games this season, Blaho has five goals and 14 points with a +5 rating.

Jason Pitton, RW – Sault Ste. Marie, OHL

Height: 6’2, Weight: 195 lbs., DOB - 1986-05-23

An 8th round pick in 2004, Jason Pitton is close to besting his point total from last season. In 2003-04 with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, he had 20 points in 67 games and his -11 rating put him last on the team. Pitton is noted for having good fundamental skills. So far this season, in 33 games, he has 12 goals and his 18 points tie him for fifth place in scoring.

Jaroslav Mrazek, D - Toronto, OHL

Height: 6’3, Weight: 200 lbs., DOB - 1986-01-14

Jaroslav Mrazek is in his first season with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors of the OHL, coming from Sparta Praha in his native Czech Republic. A sixth round pick in the 2004 draft, Mrazek is a strong player who is solid in his own zone and handles the puck well. The rookie is still scoreless in 20 games so far this season, with 13 penalty minutes and a -2 rating.

Sylvain Michaud, G – Drummondville, QMJHL

Height: 5’11, Weight :188 lbs., DOB - 1985-01-02

A ninth round pick in 2003, Sylvain Michaud is coming off a career season with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Last season he posted four shutouts and cut his goals against average almost in half to 2.92. A small goaltender at 5’11, Michaud has 10 wins in 30 games so far this season and a goals against average of 2.53.
