Bruins training camp notes

The Bruins got off to a shaky start this pre-season, with a 5-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Goaltending prospect Hannu Toivonen, who played until the third period, gave up 4 goals, recording a total 17 saves in 21 shots. Right wing Colton Orr got into a small scuffle with Leafs winger Nathan Perrott during the first period, earning him one of Boston’s 15 total penalties for the night. Center Brad Boyes was one of three Boston players who participated in the post game shootout. Overall, Boston attempted 25 shots on goal and went 0 for 4 on the power play.

Game 2 went better for the B’s with a 5-4 overtime win against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The star of the show was Patrice Bergeron, who scored 2 goals and 2 assists, as well as the lone shootout goal for the Bruins. Of the prospects looking to make an impact, Brad Boyes came up with a goal in the first period, Andrew Alberts overpowered Penguins winger Ryan Vandenbussche in the game’s only fight, and Hannu Toivonen joined the game at the start of the third period, allowing 1 goal in 16 total shots. Both Brad Boyes and Petr Kalus participated in the shootout. The B’s made 33 total shots on goal and went 3 for 10 on the power play.
