Machesney named OHL Player of the Week

The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Brampton Battalion goaltender Daren Machesney is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday January 8, 2006 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a 0.50 goals against average, a .982 save percentage and a shutout in two wins last week.

Machesney started the week with 26 saves in a 5-1 win over the Guelph Storm on January 6 and then made 29 saves for his third shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over the Sudbury Wolves on January 8. Machesney has won four straight starts and improved his season record to 15-12-0-1 with a 3.15 goals against average and .904 save percentage.

The 19-year-old native of Lambeth was a fifth round choice of the Washington Capitals in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
