BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, February 6, 2006 (QMJHL) – Forward Derick Brassard of the Drummondville Voltigeurs and defenseman Michal Sersen of the Quebec Remparts were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 30th to February 5th, 2006.
In three games, Brassard scored six goals, including a game-winner, and notched three assists, while maintaining a +6 (plus/minus) differential. His best performance of the week came in a game against the Rocket in PEI last Friday, in which he tallied a hat trick in the third period to enable the Voltigeurs to erase a two goal deficit and win 4-3. The next day, in Saint John, he had two goals and two assists in a 7-1 victory over the Sea Dogs. Brassard now has 88 points in 44 games this season. He has participated in a remarkable 45% of his team’s goals so far this year. The Voltigeurs’ next game is next Wednesday as they travel to Gatineau to face the Olympiques.
Brent Aubin (5-5-10) of Quebec, Kristopher Letang (1-7-8) of Val-d’Or and Alexandre Picard-Hooper (5-2-7) of Baie-Comeau were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Michal Sersen. In four contests, the Remparts defenseman registered two goals, including a game-winner, collected five assists as well as dished-out nineteen hits. His best game of the week came yesterday at the Colisée Pepsi as he scored two goals in a 6-1 win over the Huskies. Sersen now leads all League defenseman in game winning goals with five. He also ranks second in both points (58) and hits (163) and third in shots on goal (199). The Remparts’ next game is tomorrow night against the Cataractes in Shawinigan.
Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were defensemen Patrick Coulombe (2-3-5) of Chicoutimi and Frédéric St-Denis (0-1-1) of Drummondville as well as goaltender Kevin Desfossés (2-0-0; 120 MP; 1.00 GAA; .964 SAV%) of Quebec.
