Team USA entered their New Year's Eve showdown with Slovakia knowing that they had to win to keep their medal hopes alive. And win they did, posting a 9-3 victory over the Slovaks to ensure that the USA lives to fight another day.
For USA forward Alex Galchenyuk, the 2013 World Junior Championship has been a productive one with the Montreal Canadiens prospect and Sarnia Sting captain sitting second in tournament scoring behind only Canada's Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Although Galchenyuk picked up just one assist in the win over Slovakia, he has totaled two goals and five assists through four preliminary round games.
And, while Galchenyuk has been productive over the course of this tournament, forward Vincent Trocheck had been relatively quiet through the first three WJC games. But the Saginaw Spirit forward and Florida Panthers prospect broke out in the game against the Slovaks, picking up two goals to bring his point total to three for the tournament.
Galchenyuk and Trocheck spoke with the media following their team's win over Slovakia, with those comments being included in this HF video.
