Although Sweden put forth a game effort in their gold medal showdown with the USA at the 2013 World Junior Championship, Team USA proved to be a worthy opponent as they dethroned the Swedes as tournament champions with a 3-1 victory in Ufa, Russia.
Sweden still takes home the silver, their fifth medal in their last six WJC's. It isn't the result the team was looking for, of course, but this year's WJC was a tournament that featured four teams with a legitimate chance to take the gold medal.
One Swedish player that may have helped his own stock some at this tournament is forward Alexander Wennberg. The Djurgarden Stockholm player didn't overwhelm with an offensive outburst as he totaled just two goals and one assist in six games. But his overall play at this WJC may help his cause with some of the many NHL scouts that were in attendance at this tournament.
Wennberg met with the media after Sweden's loss to the USA in the gold medal game.
