The USA completed their comeback from a poor showing at last year's U-20 World Junior Championship to win the gold medal at the 2013 edition of this event.

One aspect of Team USA that truly stood out was the production by their defense over the course of the tournament. The seven defenders that suited up for the USA totaled 29 points off of 10 goals and 19 assists.  The two defensemen chosen for the tournament All-Star team, Jacob Trouba and Jake McCabe, were both Americans, along with goaltender John Gibson and forward John Gaudreau.

Trouba and McCabe will now return to their respective NCAA teams to close out the 2012-13 season. Another top American defender, Seth Jones, will go back to the WHL's Portland Winterhawks for a couple of weeks before taking on the captaincy of Team Orr at the 2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. Jones may well have vaulted into the top ranking for the 2013 NHL Draft with his performance at this WJC.

Jones, Trouba, and McCabe spoke with the media following the USA's win over Sweden in the gold medal game.
