Bourret and Coulombe win QMJHL player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, February 20, 2006 (QMJHL) – Forward Alex Bourret of the Shawinigan Cataractes and defenseman Patrick Coulombe of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from February 13th to 19th, 2006.

In four games, Bourret scored nine goals, including two game-winners, and notched five assists, while maintaining a +3 (plus/minus) differential. Last Wednesday versus Gatineau, the Cataractes winger collected a hat-trick, while scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat the Olympiques 4-3. Two days later, he registered six points in a 10-7 loss to the Foreurs. Bourret is now fourth in the League in scoring with 105 points in 56 contests.

Alexander Radulov (5-8-13) of Quebec, François Bouchard (5-5-10) of Baie-Comeau and Benoit Mondou (3-10-13) of Shawinigan were also considered.

The defensive player of the week award goes to Patrick Coulombe. In three games, the Saguenéens defenseman scored three goals, collected five assists and maintained a +4 (plus/minus) differential. His best game of the week came Saturday at home as he collected a hat-trick as well as two assists in a 9-3 win over the Océanic. He was also named the game’s first star. Since his arrival from Rimouski in a trade last December, he has registered 35 points in 23 games.

Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were goaltenders Kevin Desfossés (2-0-0; 120 MP; 1.00 GAA; .962 SAV%) of Quebec and Julien Ellis (2-0-0; 1 SO; 133 MP; 1.80 GAA; .945 SAV%) of Shawinigan as well as defenseman Sébastien Bisaillon (2-4-6) of Val-d’Or.
