Two Wolverines Headline CCHA All-Rookie Team

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan, with two picks, and four other schools have student-athletes recognized among the six freshmen named to the 2005-06 Central Collegiate Hockey Association All-Rookie Team. Determined by a vote of the conference head coaches, the team will be honored at the 2006 CCHA Awards on Thursday, March 16, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

Andrew Cogliano, an 18-year-old forward from Woodbridge, Ont., and the University of Michigan, led the CCHA among rookies with 10 conference goals and tied for second with 21 points. His .76 points-per-game average in all contests ranked in the top 20 in national rookie scoring.

Erik Condra, a 19-year-old forward from Livonia, Mich., and Notre Dame University, outpaced all freshmen in assists and points during conference games with 21 and 25, respectively. Condra’s 34 points in all games this season led Notre Dame in scoring and placed him seventh in the nation among freshmen.

Dan Riedel, a 20-year-old forward from Rochester Hills, Mich., and Ferris State University, had 14 assists in conference action and 19 overall, putting him second on the Bulldogs. Riedel’s average of .90 points-per-game was good for 10th in the nation among rookie scorers.

Tyler Eckford, a 20-year-old defenseman from Langley, B.C., and the University of Alaska Fairbanks, had 15 points in conference action this season, good for seventh overall and second among defensemen on the freshmen scoring list. Eckford also was the top scoring blueliner on the Nanooks this season, and third overall, with 17 points.

Jack Johnson, a 19-year-old defenseman from Ann Arbor, Mich., and the University of Michigan, led all rookie defensemen in scoring this year in both the CCHA and the nation with 30 points. His 21 points in conference action tie him for second among all players on the rookie scoring list.

Jeff Lerg, a 19-year-old goalie from Livonia, Mich., and Michigan State University, was the league’s number two goaltender in save percentage (.926) and goals-against average (2.03) during conference games this season. He played in 24 games overall posting a 12-4-6 record for the Spartans.
