The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Sudbury Wolves’ goaltender Kevin Beech is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday April 2, 2006 after posting a 3-1-0 record, along with a 1.25 goals against average, .960 save percentage and two shutouts in helping the Wolves advance to the second round of the OHL playoffs.
Beech started the week with a 27-save shutout that gave the Wolves a 2-0 win over the Kingston Frontenacs in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference opening round playoff series on March 28. The next day, he allowed two goals on 35 shots in a 5-2 win. He gave up three goals on 31 shots in a 3-0 loss in Game 5 on March 31 and closed out the series with a 33-save shutout in a 4-0 win in Game 6 on April 2.
Beech, a 19-year-old native of London, improved his playoff record to 4-2-0 with a 1.83 goals against average and .945 save percentage.
