The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Performers of the Month for March.


OHL Player of the Month – Wojtek Wolski, Brampton Battalion
Wolski was named the OHL’s top player for the fourth straight month after leading the league in scoring with 13 goals and 27 assists for 40 points in 14 games, including 12 points in Brampton’s six-game playoff win over the Belleville Bulls. Wolski started the month with a five-point performance in a 9-3 win over the Oshawa Generals on March 3. The 20-year-old from Mississauga followed up with four-point games against the Barrie Colts on March 4 and the Mississauga IceDogs on March 5. He also enjoyed a five-point game in the regular season finale against the Bulls on March 19.

OHL Rookie of the Month – Logan Couture, Ottawa 67′s
Couture was named the OHL rookie of the month after racking up eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 13 games. Couture, Ottawa’s first round pick in the OHL Priority Selection last May, had three multiple-point games last month, including two-goal games against the Barrie Colts on March 12 and Oshawa Generals on March 17. The 17-year-old London native scored three goals and seven points in Ottawa’s six-game opening round playoff loss to the Peterborough Petes, including a three-point effort in a 4-3 win on March 29.

Defenceman of the Month – Michael Vernace, Brampton Battalion
Vernace has been one of the OHL’s top scoring defencemen throughout the season and was named OHL defenceman of the month for March after leading all blueliners with three goals and 16 assists for 19 points in 14 games. The 19-year-old from Downsview recorded at least one point in the final eight games of the regular season, including three point games against the Mississauga IceDogs on March 5 and Kingston Frontenacs on March 16. Vernace added a goal and four assists in Brampton’s opening round playoff win over the Belleville Bulls.

Goaltender of the Month – Daren Machesney, Brampton Battalion
Machesney was named OHL goaltender of the month after putting together a 9-1-0 record, along with a 2.29 goals against average and .924 save percentage in 10 games. Machesney backed the Battalion to a 4-2 opening series win over the Belleville Bulls. The 19-year-old from Hamilton won his final seven starts of the season. He improved his regular season record to 28-17-1-2 with a 3.03 goals against average and .908 save percentage in 49 games.
