Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League announced today that Peterborough Petes goaltender David Shantz is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Sunday April 9 after posting a pair of wins to help the Petes jump out to a 2-0 series lead in the OHL Eastern Conference semi-finals over the Sudbury Wolves.
Shantz, a 19-year-old native of Hamilton, Ontario posted a goals against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .970 last week. Shantz had 35 saves in Game 1 when the Petes came away with a 3-1 win. Game 2 was another strong performance for Shantz when he picked up 29 saves in a 6-1 win. The Petes have now also gone on to win Game 3 and hold a commanding 3-0 series lead. The Petes netminder has helped the club go 7-2 thus far in the playoffs while posting a .932 save percentage and a 2.34 goals against average.
Each week during the regular season, the CHL will recognize the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week and will present the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Year Award to the CHL’s top netminder at the conclusion of the 2005-06 season.
