Kramer tricks Herd; Bucs a win from finals

Lincoln jumped out to a 1-0 lead in its Clark Cup playoffs semifinals series with Sioux Falls on Wednesday night, while Des Moines went up 2 games to 0 in its series with Cedar Rapids.

The Stars scored five unanswered goals to overcome a 0-2 first-period deficit en route to a 5-2 victory. Mike Kramer led Lincoln’s offensive charge with a hat trick, including the shorthanded game-winner in the second period. J.J. Koehler and Mike Davies rang up the other Lincoln goals.

Sioux Falls’ Drew Akin and Travis Vermuelen opened the game’s scoring.

Between the pipes, Lincoln’s Bryan Hogan and Sioux Falls’ John Murray both stopped 20 shots.

In Des Moines, first-period goals by Aaron Palushaj and Kyle Okposo proved to be enough offense as the Buccaneers tamed the RoughRiders, 3-1. Aaron Bendickson scored the third Des Moines goal.

Chad Costello struck for Cedar Rapids’ only tally.

In goal, Des Moines’ Troy Davenport stopped 39 shots, while Alex Stalock made 42 saves for Cedar Rapids.

Both best-of-five series resume on Friday night, with Sioux Falls playing host to Lincoln (7 p.m. CST) and Des Moines heading back to Cedar Rapids (7 p.m. CST).
