CHL Stars Invited to USA National Junior Evaluation Camp

When the USA Junior Evaluation Camp gets underway in August in Lake Placid, New York, there will be five CHL stars looking to make the squad.

Invited to the camp is Michael Sauer of the Portland Winter Hawks, Dan Collins of the Plymouth Whalers & Nick Foligno of the Sudbury Wolves. Bobby Ryan of the Owen Sound Attack & Peter Mueller of the Everett Silvertips will both be looking to return for their second tour of duty with the team.

Sauer had eight goals and 31 points for Portland this season in just 59 games. The Winter Hawks defenceman was drafted in the 2nd Round, 40th Overall by the New York Rangers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Collins scored 26 goals and 49 points for the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League this season. The native of Syracuse, New York was drafted in the 3rd Round, 90th Overall by the Florida Panthers at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Foligno is a scoring forward for the Sudbury Wolves, this season totaling 24 goals and 70 points. Nick is slated to go in the first few rounds of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft later this month in Vancouver.

Ryan and Mueller were joined last year on the American team by Rob Schremp of the London Knights. Together the three combined for 6 goals and 19 points in a fourth place finish for the USA. Ryan was a star in the OHL this season while leading the Owen Sound Attack with 95 points. The power forward was chosen 2nd Overall by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Mueller has just completed his first season in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips. Peter was named the WHL Rookie of the Year after 26 goals and 58 points in 52 games this season and is the ranked 6th amongst North American skaters for the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2007 National Junior Championships begin December 26 and run through to January 6 in Leksand, Sweden.
