Halifax Mooseheads Press Release

The Halifax Mooseheads have selected Czech Republic winger Jakub Voracek from HC Kladno of the Under-20 Czech League with the 1st overall selection in the 2006 CHL European Entry Draft.

Voracek, 6’2” 185 lbs, finished second in Czech Under-20 league scoring this past season with 21 goals, 38 assists in 46 games.

“We are excited about seeing Jakub in a Halifax Mooseheads’ jersey” stated Marcel Patenaude, Mooseheads General Manager. “As a 17-year-old, Jakub will be able to develop with our team and we feel he will become an impact player with the Mooseheads. With his speed and skill he will become a fan favorite very quickly.

Redline Report, an independent scouting review from the United States, describes Voracek as a “big, strong winger with a nose for the net. A fine skater with speed, acceleration, balance and power.”

ISS, the International Scouting Service, describes Voracek as a player that has the “size/scoring combination that all scouts seek from the wing position. He should score often basically because he excels when driving to the net hard”.

Both scouting services agree Voracek will be a sure fire NHL first rounder during the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Voracek has committed to reporting to the Halifax Mooseheads and is expected to be in the line-up when the Mooseheads open their 2006-2007 season on Saturday, September 16th at the Halifax Metro Centre when they battle their Provincial rivals, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
