Canada has opened the 2013 U18 World Junior Championship with three consecutive victories, with their most important game of the preliminary round coming up against Sweden. Game #3 was won in convincing fashion as the Canadians thrashed Switzerland, 10-1 at the Maly Ice Palace in Sochi, Russia.
Several Canadians contributed to the lopsided win, including defenseman Josh Morrissey, who finished the game with two goals off of three shots on goal. Given his offensive capabilities, Morrissey is an important part of the offense for Canada as he is expected to generate some offense from the back-end.
Morrissey played for the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL in the 2012-13 season. In 70 games for that team, he scored 15 goals and added 32 assists for 47 points. The Calgary, AB native is playing in his second U18 tournament, and is considered a top prospect for the 2013 NHL Draft.
Morrissey spoke with Hockey's Future following the win over Switzerland.
