BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 9, 2006 – Forward Viatcheslav Trukhno of the Gatineau Olympiques and goaltender Jérémy Duchesne of the Halifax Mooseheads were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from October 2 to 8.
In three games, Trukhno collected eight assists, while maintaining a +2 (plus/minus) differential. He helped the Olympiques win their three contests: a 3-2 victory over the Océanic, a 7-3 win over the surging Cataractes and a 7-5 win over the Tigres. Gatineau has now taken over first place in the QMJHL overall standings.
Angelo Esposito (1-6-7) of Quebec, Charles-Antoine Messier (5-1-6) of Baie-Comeau and Paul Alexander McIlveen (5-1-6) of Cape Breton were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to veteran goaltender Jérémy Duchesne. In two games on the road, the Mooseheads backstop registered two wins, including a shutout, while posting an impressive 1.44 goals-against-average and a .959 save percentage. In a 4-3 win over PEI, Duchesne pushed away 38 shots as well as four skaters in the shootout. Then, he collected his first shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory over the Sea Dogs.
Mathieu Carle (0-7-7; +4) of Acadie-Bathurst, Martin Fréchette (1-6-7; +3) of Gatineau and Bobby Nadeau (1-1-0; 119 MP; 1.01 GAA; .961 SAV %) of Chicoutimi were also considered.
