BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 23, 2006 – Shawinigan Cataractes forward Danick Bouchard and Victoriaville Tigres defenseman Maxim Noreau were named the TELUS offensive and TELUS defensive players of the week for the period extending from October 16 to 22.
In three road games, Bouchard collected six goals, including one game-winner, and assisted on three others, while maintaining a +4 (plus/minus) differential. He had a hand in nine out of the team’s ten goals during the three-game span. Last Friday, he netted both goals in a 5-2 loss to the Remparts. Then, the next evening, he registered three points in a 4-3 overtime win over the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Finally, on Sunday, he scored a hat-trick to lead his team to victory over the Drakkar. The Cataractes forward leads the league in scoring with thirty-seven points. He is also the league leader in goals scored with twenty-three.
Mathieu Roy (5-1-6) and Sébastien Bisaillon (0-6-6) of Val-d’Or as well as Oskars Bartulis (2-4-6) of Cape Breton were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Victoriaville defenseman Maxim Noreau. In three games, the Tigres defender registered two goals and three assists, while maintaining a +5 (plus/minus) differential. Moreover, he punished opponents by administrating a total of eight bodychecks over the course of the week. His best performance came in a 6-3 win at home versus the red-hot Gatineau Olympiques in which he collected one goal and one assist, while maintaining a +3 (plus/minus) differential. The Tigres have a 7-1 record in the friendly confines of Colisée Desjardins this year. They have allowed only eighteen goals at home, while scoring a whopping forty-three.
Goaltenders Alexandre Vincent (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 2.00 GAA; .926 SAV %) of Val-d’Or, Kevin Desfossés (3-0-0; 180 MIN; 2.67 GAA; .915 SAV %) of Quebec and Jean-Philippe Levasseur (2-0-0; 125 MIN; 2.88 GAA; .914 SAV %) of Rouyn-Noranda were also considered.
