BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 30, 2006 – Baie-Comeau Drakkar forward François Bouchard and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defenseman Oskars Bartulis were named the TELUS offensive and TELUS defensive players of the week for the period extending from October 23 to 29.
In three games, Bouchard collected two goals and assisted on six others, while maintaining a +5 (plus/minus) differential. Moreover, two of his helpers resulted in game-winning goals. His best performance of the week came against the red-hot Cataractes as he registered four points in a 6-5 overtime win. The fiery forward was named the game’s first star. Bouchard has collected 34 points in 16 games. He sits six points behind League leader Claude Giroux of Gatineau in scoring.
Benjamin Breault (3-5-8) of Baie-Comeau, Guillaume Doucet (3-3-6) of PEI and Jeff Desjardins (4-3-7) of Rouyn-Noranda were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Screaming Eagles defenseman Oskars Bartulis. In three contests, all Cape Breton wins, the defender registered three goals and two assists, while maintaining a +6 (plus/minus) differential. His best showing of the week came at home against the Val-d’Or Foreurs where he collected one goal on five shots and one assist. Moreover, he was a healthy +2. Thanks to their perfect record this week, the Screaming Eagles sit in first place in the Eastern division standings.
Goaltenders Jonathan Bernier (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 1.50 GAA; .946 SAV %) of Lewiston and Jean-Christophe Blanchard (2-0-0; 125 MIN; 2.40 GAA; .923 SAV %) of Victoriaville as well as defenseman Marc-André Gragnani (1-3-4; +4) of PEI were also considered.
