BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, November 20, 2006 – Quebec Remparts forward Angelo Esposito and PEI Rocket goaltender Antoine Lafleur were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from November 13 to 19.
In three games, Esposito collected four goals and assisted on seven others while maintaining a healthy +3 (plus/minus) differential. His best performance of the week came against the Saint John Sea Dogs yesterday. In the game, he registered three goals and three assists for a total of six points in a 10-2 win. It was his second career six-point game. The Remparts are now in third place in the Telus division standings thanks to sixteen wins in twenty-seven games.
Mathieau Perreault (3-5-8) of Acadie-Bathurst, David Desharnais (2-6-8) of Chicoutimi and Brent Aubin (4-3-7) of Quebec were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to PEI Rocket backstop Antoine Lafleur. In three games, he collected three wins, including a shutout, while maintaining a 1.36 goals-against-average and a .960 save percentage. In relief of his teammate Ryan Mior last Wednesday, Lafleur blocked forty-five shots in a come-from-behind win over the Wildcats; earning first star honors. Moreover, on Friday, he stopped 21 shots in a 7-3 victory over Shawinigan, and followed that stellar start up with a shutout win (5-0) over the Rimouski Océanic on Sunday. It was the Rocket’s fourth consecutive win at home.
Defensemen Kristopher Letang (1-6-7; +3) of Val-d’Or and Marc-André Gragnani (3-1-4; +9) of PEI as well as goaltender Jonathan Bernier (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 1.00 GAA; .960 SAV %) of Lewiston were also considered.
