BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, November 27, 2006 – Val-d’Or Foreurs defenseman Kristopher Letang and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from November 20 to 26.
In two road games, Letang collected four goals, including a game-winner, and assisted on two others while maintaining a healthy +3 (plus/minus) differential. In the first of two games versus St. John’s on Friday, the Val-d’Or defenseman registered one goal and two assists in a 6-3 win, while helping his team limit the Fog Devils to a total of twenty-two shots on goal. The following night, Letang collected his first hat-trick of the season in a 5-2 win and earned first star honors. The Foreurs have now won their last six games.
Jonathan Duchesneau (1-6-7) of the Voltigeurs, as well as David Desharnais (2-4-6) and Alexandre Imbeault (2-4-6) of the Saguenéens were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Rouyn-Noranda Huskies goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur. In three road games in three nights, he collected two wins while maintaining a 2.68 goals-against-average and a .930 save percentage. He also faced an average of 45.6 shots per game. His best performance of the week came in a 6-1 win over the Quebec Remparts on Saturday at the Colisée Pepsi. During the contest, Levasseur blocked forty shots and was named the game’s first star. Of note, the Huskies allowed a total of twenty-eight power-play chances over the three-game span with their opponents capitalizing on seven occasions.
Defensemen Andrew MacDonald (1-6-7; +8) and Luc Bourdon (1-3-4; +8) of Moncton, as well as goaltender Jonathan Bernier (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 2.00 GAA; .930 SAV %) of Lewiston were also considered.
