Although the team made a good run through the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, Team USA was not able to break Canada's dominant hold on gold at this tournament as they fell to the Canadians, 4-0, in the gold medal game.
One of the defenders patrolling the blueline for the USA at this tournament was Brandon Carlo, a 6'4”, 180-pound defenseman who will be playing for the Tri-City Americans of the WHL in 2013-14. Carlo's physical style of play fit in with the more physical approach the USA decided to employ at this tournament, and it is that aspect of his game that is likely to draw the most attention from NHL scouts in the coming season.
Carlo, a native of Colorado Springs, CO, did not register a point in five games at the Ivan Hlinka. In addition, he played in five WHL playoff games for the Tri-City club, scoring one goal in those appearances.
Carlo spoke with Hockey's Future at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament, a conversation that was captured in this HF video.
