BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, March 12, 2007 – Two defensemen are honoured this week. Indeed, Chad Denny of the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Ivan Vishnevskiy of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from March 5 to 11.
In three games, Denny recorded three goals and six assists while maintaining a +2 differential. Furthermore, he had a hand in 9 of the team’s 17 goals to help the MAINEiacs collect three wins. His best showing came last Wednesday as he registered four points in a 6-0 victory over the Wildcats. Moreover, thanks to a 4-3 win over the Rocket in front of 3,677 fans at Androscoggin Bank Colisée yesterday, the MAINEiacs clinched the first overall spot in the standings. In the win, the Lewiston defence allowed only twelve shots on goal.
Alexandre Imbeault (4-2-6) of the Saguenéens, Morten Madsen (2-4-6) of the Tigres and Chris Tutalo (2-4-6) of the MAINEiacs were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Ivan Vishnevskiy. In three games, the Rouyn-Noranda defenseman registered four assists as well as a +5 differential. Moreover, the Huskies’ defence allowed only six goals in three games. Vishnevskiy enjoyed his best game on Wednesday in Rimouski as he collected two helpers and maintained a +4 differential in a 5-3 win. He was also named the game’s first star. Three days later, he registered his 50th point of the season in a 4-1 victory over the Olympiques in Gatineau. The Huskies are presently fighting for playoff position in a tight race in the TELUS division standings.
Goaltenders Marc-André Perron (2-1-0; 180 MIN; 2.33 GAA; .932 SAV %) of the Cataractes and Mark Yetman (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 1.50 GAA; .942 SAV %) of the Mooseheads as well as defenseman Jean-Claude Sawyer (0-4-4; +6) of the Screaming Eagles were also considered.
