Kristopher Letang Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that defenceman Kristopher Letang of the Val-d’Or Foreurs is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 25, 2007. Letang recorded four goals and four assists for eight points in two playoff games, both resulting in wins.

Friday night, Letang led Val-d’Or in scoring with two shorthanded goals and three assists for an 8-2 victory in the Foreurs opening playoff game versus the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. The following night, Letang scored a power play goal late in the third period to tie the game for the Foreurs and later tallied his second power play marker in the overtime frame, giving Val-d’Or a 5-4 win and a 2-0 series lead. He also added one assist and was awarded the first star of the game.

The 19-year-old Montreal, QC native was chosen 62nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 3rd round of the 2005 NHL draft.

Steve Mason of the London Knight’s was the OHL nominee after stopping 106 of 110 shots to post a 1.92 goals against average and a .964 save percentage in two playoff games. Josh Aspenlind of the Chilliwack Bruins was the WHL nominee after scoring two goals and four assists for six points in two playoff games.
