Derek LeBlanc Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Derek LeBlanc of the Calgary Hitmen is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 15, 2007. LeBlanc scored five goals and four assists for nine points in four playoff games leading the Hitmen to four consecutive victories and a 4-2 best-of-seven series win over the Brandon Wheat Kings, in the MNP Eastern Conference Semi-Final.

On Tuesday, April 10th, LeBlanc chipped in two assists as the Hitmen skated to an 8-1 victory over the visiting Wheat Kings in Game 3 of the series. The Following night, LeBlanc scored twice, including the game-winner, and added one assist to lead the Hitmen to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Wheat Kings in Game 4 of the series. LeBlanc was selected as the game’s 2nd star. On Friday, April 13th, LeBlanc scored two goals, including the winner only eight seconds into overtime, to lift the visiting Hitmen to a 5-4 victory over the Wheat Kings in Game 5. LeBlanc was selected as the game’s 1st star. On Sunday, April 15th, LeBlanc scored one goal, added one assist, and was named the game’s 2nd star as the Hitmen skated to a series-clinching 4-1 victory over the visiting Wheat Kings in Game 6.

Brad Marchand of the Val-d’Or Foreurs was the QMJHL nominee after he scored three goals and four assists for seven points in three playoff games. Kyle Gajewski of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds was the OHL nominee after posting a 2.89 goals against average and a .909 save percentage in three playoff games.
