Calgary – The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Derek LeBlanc of the Calgary Hitmen. LeBlanc earned player of the week honours by scoring five goals and nine points with a +7 rating in four playoff games during the week of April 9th to April 15th, helping the Hitmen to four straight victories and a 4-2 best-of-seven series win over the Brandon Wheat Kings in the MNP Eastern Conference Semi-Final.
On Tuesday, April 10th, LeBlanc chipped in two assists as the Hitmen skated to an 8-1 victory over the visiting Wheat Kings in Game 3 of the series.
On Wednesday, April 11th, LeBlanc scored twice, including the game-winner, and added an assist to lead the Hitmen to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Wheat Kings in Game 4 of the series. He was also selected the game’s 2nd star.
On Friday, April 13th, LeBlanc scored two goals, including the winner only eight seconds into overtime, to lift the visiting Hitmen to a 5-4 victory over the Wheat Kings in Game 5 of the series in Brandon. He was selected as the game’s 1st star.
On Sunday, April 15th, LeBlanc scored once, added an assist, and was named the games’ 2nd star as the Hitmen skated to a series-clinching 4-1 victory over the visiting Wheat Kings in Game 6 in Calgary.
LeBlanc, an overage player from Brandon, MB, is in his fourth and final season in the WHL, and is a free agent.
The WHL has also nominated Real Cyr of the Prince George Cougars for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week.
